RAPAURA SPRINGS RESERVE PINOT GRIS 2016 is available to buy in increments of 1
We sell a lot of the Rapaura Springs Reserve Sauvignon Blanc and thought it about time we took a look at the Pinot Gris too. As we suspected, it's right up there with the sauv in quality and style. A mix of fermentation vessels and different yeasts has built texture into the wine and added a whole lot of character to the core of concentrated fruit. Mouth filling, rich, and excellent drinking.
Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Our Reserve Pinot Gris is made from the finest parcels of fruit from our 2016 harvest. The vineyards delivered nice, ripe fruit with excellent varietal intensity. Once pressed, the juice was fermented in a selection of old oak barrels and stainless steel. A selection of different yeasts allowed both textural qualities to develop in some components and to retain the crisp fruit flavours from the vineyard in others. The resulting wine captures and showcases some of the diverse varietal flavours found in Marlborough’s unique sub-regions."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 Raymond Chan, August 2016 (2016 Vintage)
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with a suggestion of blush, paler on the rim. The nose is firmly concentrated and tightly bound with exotic aromas of white and yellow stonefruits, along with rose-petal florals and nuances of spice with musk and nutty notes at the core. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, and exotic rose-petal florals are lifted and aromatic, and are enhanced by spicy elements. The fruit is gently rich and concentrated and flows along a fine-textured phenolic thread with integrated acidity. The palate has real presence and underlying alcoholic power provides drive, carrying the wine to a lingering finish of florals and honeysuckle. This is an aromatic and exotic off-dry Pinot Gris with gently rich and concentrated flavours with good drive and power. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the Awatere, Brancott and Taylors Pass, fermented in stainless-steel with 4% in seasoned oak to 13.5% alc. and 5.3 g/L RS.
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Already very open and expressive, the dryish 2016 vintage was mostly handled in tanks; 5 per cent of the blend was barrel-fermented. Full-bodied, it has generous stone-fruit and spice flavours, with a hint of ginger, slight sweetness (5 grams/litre of residual sugar), a touch of complexity, and lots of drink-young appeal."
