Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2020
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Handpicked, whole bunch fruit pressed to barrel, feral fermentation. Large oak to maintain vibrancy, line and texture. Marlborough Chardonnay, flint, funk and line; a coiled spring with richness and freaky talent."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"A very youthful, vibrant and expressive bouquet with aromas and palate flavours of white fleshed tree and stone fruits, pear and american pink grapefruit then layers of oak, but not new wood – just a lighter toast and mild scents of baking spices and raw sugar. Texture on the palate is a feature accentuating the spice, acidity and wood. A flinty mineral note adding complexity and charm. Nice lengthy finish, well made and ready to enjoy from late 2020 through 2025."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Beautifully fruited and delightfully expressed, the inviting bouquet shows nectarine, fresh fig, vanilla and roasted hazelnut characters. The palate is equally satisfying with excellent weight and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully enhanced by creamy texture and well-pitched acidity. Flavoursome, complex and fabulously drinkable. at its best: now to 2024."
Rated Excellent, 5 Stars & 93+/100 NZ Wine Rater, July 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"Heady, and lemony on the nose with complex sulfide characters, and notes of nectarine, vanilla biscuits, and white pepper. A wine of two halves, the nose suggested a full figured wine, but the palate while having a tasty, oily richness is lemony, and fresh with a salivating, acid structure, and a lingering finish."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2019 Vintage)
"The 2019 vintage is a single-vineyard wine, grown at Dillons Point, in the lower Wairau Valley. Hand-picked from mature (25 year-old) vines, it was fermented and matured in large French oak casks. Refined and very youthful, it has concentrated, peachy, citrusy, slightly toasty flavours, fresh acidity and a finely balanced, dry finish. Still unfolding, it’s well worth cellaring to 2022+."
