The 57th release of this Aussie Icon, this vintage named for Kevin Glastonbury, Yalumba Winemaker & Robin Nettelbeck, Chief Viticulturist as the Signatories. This release continues a string of very good vintages. A classic blend of Barossa Cabernet and Shiraz. Undoubtedly age-worthy for many more years, this also has an approachability with super-smooth chocolate-berry vanillin oak, Christmas cake fruits and spices, a hint of smokiness and a sense of solidness on the palate.

This is the kind of wine you need to have on hand to serve when you want to impress and you can have the confidence it will last in a good cellar for well over a decade if you forgot about it. Stunning value for a wine of its quality.

Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Encompassing everything our family stands for and the perfect representation of our history and ethos, The Signature is a sentimental favourite. A classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, the first vintage release of The Signature was in 1962. Since then, this outstanding wine has acknowledged more than 57 Signatories; people who have enhanced the traditions and culture of Yalumba.

Each vintage of The Signature is named in honour of an individual who has made a significant contribution to the culture and traditions of Yalumba. To honour just one individual this year was an impossibility. Vini & Viti are inseparable, and like a great Cabernet & Shiraz the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It is with great pleasure we present our 2019 vintage to Kevin Glastonbury, Yalumba Winemaker & Robin Nettelbeck, Chief Viticulturist.

A star of the 2019 vintage. Deep, dense purple-red in colour. Seductive and alluring florals, cool mints, red pomegranate with fine blackberry fruits and dark cherry aromas. The palate is delightfully generous with dark red cherry fruit that merges into ironstone tannins. A medium to full bodied wine with a long, flowing tannin profile. A very refined and elegantly styled Signature

The Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from four vineyards in the Barossa Valley. The diversity of our vineyard selection provides the rich, lifted Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics and palate structure for which The Signature is renowned. The Shiraz comes from vineyards of varying age, with the oldest planted in 1925. These blocks are of sandy loam, featuring yellow sand and ochre clay over red clay. The combination of these Barossa Valley blocks provides a Shiraz with sweetness, fullness, depth and layers of complexity. Matured for 19 months in 25% new French barriques and Hungarian hogsheads, balance in older French and Hungarian barriques and hogsheads."

96/100 Tina Gellie, Decanter (UK) (2019 Vintage)
"Tasted in an unlabelled bottle at Yalumba with Hill-Smith Family Estates chief winemaker Louisa Rose and sixth-generation Jessica Hill-Smith who assured me that only proprietor Robert Hill-Smith knew who that year's Signatory was until he made the announcement at the company Christmas party. For this vintage it was two: Yalumba's senior red winemaker Kevin 'KG' Glastonbury and former chief viticulturist Robin Nettelbeck, who retired in 2022 after 45 years with Yalumba. It's the quintessential Aussie red blend, the 52% Barossa Valley Cabernet and the Shiraz from both Barossa and Eden Valleys, from vines 45 to 100 years old, aged 19 months in French and Hungarian barriques and hogsheads, 25% new. The Signature is always a generously fruited, structured wine, but this cooler vintage has imbued it with juicy acidity that really lifts the blackcurrant, mint and violet perfume and adds great freshness and elegance to the concentrated palate. Supple tannins glide over the blackforest-like richness of cherry, chocolate and vanilla through to a long finish. A real stunner and great value for under £40." Drink 2023 – 2037

95/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, March 2023 (2019 Vintage)
"Winemaker Kevin Glastonbury is (finally!) the signatory on the bottle. What a great and long-standing person he has been at Yalumba, so affable, shifting the dial gradually, open minded and a strong ambassador for the wines. It’s 52% cabernet, 48% shiraz. Good year for it, KG explains. It’s heady in its perfume, thick scents of ripe raspberry, vanilla coffee, boysenberry and cedar with whiffs of green herb. The palate is impossibly rich and soft, smooth and velvety, voluptuous but with great freshness and a minty lift. Hedonistic style, but the brightness is really appealing, and the wine has veered well away from its past dry, firm, somewhat taxing-in-youth structural styles. A light squeeze of tannin. It’s got Aussie classic written all over it. Delicious drinking for the bolder red lover, or others!"

96/100 Dave Brookes, James Halliday's Wine Companion (2019 Vintage)
"Since its first release in 1962, the Yalumba Signature cabernet/shiraz blend has shown a fine pedigree of cellar-worthy wines, and it looks like that bloodline will continue with the 2019 release. Deep, bright crimson in the glass and densely packed with ripe blackberry, black cherry, plum and cassis fruit notes on a bed of fine spice, licorice, cedar, dark chocolate, vanillin oak and light almond blossom tones. There's a wonderful tannin structure here, fine, compact and sandy, lending perfect structure to the pure black fruits. Nothing heavy or overblown, everything in its place, the confluence of fruit/tannin/acidity on song. Pop some in your glass or the cellar. You choose. Drink 2023 – 2038."
