Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"This light-bodied and highly aromatic wine shows the bright Barossa Grenache flavours at their individual best. The fragrance abounds with brooding plum red fruits, dark cherries and perfumed berries. The palate is richly textured, fleshy, round and supple with a red juiciness that merges into velvety tannins to finish. A defined wine showing the richness and concentration of the vintage. Matured for 7 months in older French and Hungarian hogsheads. A wine to drink now or cellar for 9 years.
With 170 years of unbroken independence, Yalumba continues to make wine at its founder’s home estate under direction of the same family today. Samuel’s Collection honours Yalumba’s founder Samuel Smith, his spirit of independence and conviction to invest in the land and make great wine."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Splendidly ripe and beautifully fragrant, showing Black Doris plum, raspberry, roasted nut, game and floral aromas on the nose. The palate displays elegant weight and supple mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by succulent fruit flavours and fine tannins. Soothing and comforting, offering excellent drinking. At its best: now to 2029."
91/100 Sarah Ahmed, Decanter, November 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Old bush vines from contract growers as well as 'younger’ Tri-Centenary Vineyard vines from 1929 bring a strong regional and varietal stamp to this medium-bodied Grenache. It reveals vivid red berry aromas of raspberry pips and cherry but with a light prick of tannin and rose petal, anise, sandalwood and a lick of mint, it is complex, not just fruity. A kirsch note warms the finish, overtaking the detail a little, but there's lots to like."

91/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, July 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Juicy raspberry, floral, spice, almond. Fresh, a little bitter herb, but ample red fruit of subdued sweetness, nuts and fine tannin, good finish. Easy appeal and great drinking."
91/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Very fragrant and uplifting bouquet of fresh red berry fruits, roses and red fruit tea, some spice and soft clay earthy moments. Fresh, fruity, crunchy textured wine with flavours of cherries and plums, red apple and roses. Very fine fruit tannins and refreshing acid line. A very well made wine with a simple yet refreshing finish. Drink now and through 2021. Delicious!"
