Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 Old Bush Vine Grenache is saturated with aromas of red fruits, cherries and perfumed berries, with hints of stalk and cracked green peppercorns. The flavours are all open and airy with the crunch of red apple and pomegranate seed. This is richly textured, round and supple with a deft juiciness merging into long powdery tannins. Drink now through 2028.

Often described as one of Australia’s unsung heroes, Grenache is naturally lighter in colour than Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon but continually provides us with wonderful big fruit flavours. Yalumba is extremely fortunate to have access to some of the oldest Grenache vineyards in the Barossa –with fruit for this wine sourced from vines planted between 1898 and 1973."

4 Stars & 17.0+/20 Raymond Chan, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Pale ruby-red colour, lighter on the rim. The nose is initially light and restrained, but reveals raspberry fruit aromas melded with a line of fresh and dark herbs, unfolding a little pepper. An array of red fruits and herbs unfold with aeration. Medium-bodied, the palate is fragrant with red florals, raspberry fruit and nuances of herbs and pepper. The fruit is rich and sweet, and the mouthfeel has energy and a slipperiness with light, supple tannin in support. A little alcoholic power underlines the fruit as it carries to a voluminous, ethereal finish of red florals and fruits. Deceptively light in colour, this Grenache has sweet raspberry fruit with supple tannin extract, and some underlying power. Match with poultry and pork, and Mediterranean fare over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from Barossa bush vines planted between 1898 and 1972, indigenous yeast fermentation initiated, and fermented with a small portion of whole clusters to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 6 months in seasoned American, French and Hungarian oak hogsheads."

93/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, April 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Old Bush Vine Grenache. Also known as Samuel’s Garden Collection grenache. It’s grown on vines ranging from 25 to 80 years of age. Beautiful grenache fruit. Ripe, sweet-ish and fluid but splashed with savoury spice and void of any oak heaviness, or indeed sweetness. It gets to roam, it gets to express, even as stringy spice-shot tannin exerts its influence. It’s Barossa grenache, well-parented. Indeed you would be quite within your rights to call this crisp, such is its lightness of touch, its freshness. A joyous wine."

90/100 James Suckling (2016 Vintage)
"A dusty and juicy wine with dried berry and strawberry character. Medium body, velvety tannins. Soft and delicious."
