Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2019
The 2018 Beetlejuice is the latest release of this fantastic Central Otago Pinot Noir named after the critically endangered Cromwell Chafer Beetle which is found in only one place in the world, Cromwell, Central Otago. Looking great already, it's wonderfully aromatic with some classic Central Otago characters of super juicy, rich and ripe dark fruits layered with sweet herb and spice delivered in the smoothest way possible. Gorgeously lush and lusciously gorgeous!
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Ripe hand picked fruit, gentle winemaking and maturation in French oak have resulted in an attractive wine. A soft and subtle palate of red fruits and fine grained tannins with aromas of blackberries, plums and cinnamon. Showing good focus and length. Excellent value, drinking fantastically well now and will develop and cellar for several years."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Fabulously fruited and pristine, the wine shows dark plum, sweet cherry, floral and subtle spice aromas on the nose, leading to a succulent palate that is supple and lingering. It is delightfully attractive and wonderfully composed with silky texture and fine-grained tannins, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2022."
93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, November 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Very bright and fruity bouquet bursting with aromas of fresh cherry and pomegranate, raspberry and rose. a lifted whole berry scent of bubble-gum adds a fleshy fruity layer and youthful charm. Varietal, plump, fresh, fleshy and fruity on the palate. Firm youthful tannins and acidity contrast, but remind also that Pinot Noir does need time to settle, relax and start maturing – this wine is just beginning. Chalky tannins, medium+ acidity, vibrant and youthful with a fairly lengthy finish. Drink from 2020 through 2023."

5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Raymond Chan, April 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Full, very dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, very youthful in appearance. The nose is very fresh and aromatically vibrant with bright, primary fruit aromas of dark-red berry and blackberry fruit, along with black plums, harmoniously intermixed with fragrant violet florals, soft nuances of dark herbs, unfolding suggestions of whole berry fermentation jam notes. Medium-full bodied, the palate possesses rich and plush, accessible fruit flavours of ripe dark-red and black berried fruits, along with black plums and jam, lifted by violet florals. The fruit is sweet and juicy, very primary in expression, and is supported by supple, fine-grained tannin extraction, with balanced acidity. The flavours carry with plenty of energy to a juicy and luscious finish. This is a plush, sweetly rich and juicy, vibrant and accessible Pinot Noir with ripe berry, plum and floral flavours on a supple palate. Match with pasta, pizza, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 6, 667, 777 and 115, fully destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 24% new French oak."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"Designed for early enjoyment, this single-vineyard Cromwell red is hand-picked and matured for eight or nine months in French oak casks (24 per cent new in 2016). The 2017 vintage is deeply coloured, with fresh, plummy, slightly spicy aromas. Full-bodied and fruit-packed, it is sweet-fruited and supple, in a 'full-on' style with concentrated cherry, plum and spice flavours. Offering good value, it's already delicious."
91/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Smells a bit like lemon Fabulon, dried roses, cherry etc., Medium bodied, rosy and supple, with some gentle grain to the tannin, crisp acidity, clean finish of fair length, pulling a little ‘mineral’ earthy. Nice."
Rebecca Gibbs MW, January 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"Dollop loads of red and purple fruit with oak-derived spices and garrigue notes. An easy-to-drink, juicy Pinot with fine-grained tannins adding a layer of sophistication."
