Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"Upon pouring, this deep purple coloured wine gradually yields notably intense and pure aromatics of cassis, black plum and anise, with ground coffee bean, graphite, fragrant thyme and cedar nuances also vying for attention. Layers of concentrated flavours emerge and flow beautifully across the palate from start to finish, with optimally ripe fruit, fine-grained tannins and supportive oak enhancing overall texture and richness at each point along the way. This full-bodied wine will benefit and gain additional complexity from careful cellaring over the next 15-20 years."
100/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2018 (2014 Vintage)
"This is a compelling rendition made from 100% cabernet sauvignon sourced from one block within an estate vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels district. The gloriously expressed bouquet shows cassis, blueberry compote, cedar, cigar, violet and black olive characters. The palate is superbly concentrated and weighted, delivering exceptional depth and richness, while remaining perfectly balanced and structured by loads of fine, chalky tannins. The wine is complete and symphonic with staggering energy and drive. At its best: 2022 to 2038."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"The 2014 vintage, made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, was matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (40 per cent new). A powerful, lush red, it is sturdy, boldly coloured and fleshy, with dense, very ripe blackcurrant and plum flavours, hints of nuts, spices and liquorice, and a rich, harmonious finish. Combining power and grace, it will be very long-lived; best drinking 2022+."
5 Stars & 20/20 (100) Raymond Chan, March 2018 (2014 Vintage)
"Full, impenetrable black-hued purple-red colour, very youthful in appearance. This has a very full and voluminous nose with beautifully concentrated and densely packed aromas of ripe, pure blackcurrant fruit with cassis liqueur and blackberry notes, black herbs and refined iron-earth and mineral elements and suggestions of black florals. This is remarkably balanced and harmonious. Medium-full bodied, the palate has incredibly vibrant, rich and succulent flavours of ripe blackcurrant fruit with cassis and blackberry notes, entwined with black herbs and iron-earth elements. The fruit is poised with underlying, very fine acidity, and supported by refined, powdery tannin structure. The richness and intensity is carried by a very fine line that leads to a long and sustained finish of finesse and style. This is a wonderfully concentrated, refined and vibrantly pure Cabernet Sauvignon with ripe blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry fruit with subtle iron-earth and mineral complexities on a gorgeously stylish palate with powdery tannins and acidity lending poise and grace. This is quite complete. Match with roasted lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 10-15+ years. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from one block on the ‘Vidal’ vineyard, Pask clone on 3309 rootstock, vines planted in 2000, fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 39% new French oak barrels. 200 dozen made."
Rated Outstanding & 97/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2020 (2014 Vintage)
"Powerful, complex, varietal and intensely perfumed bouquet. Blackberry, black currant, dark plums and toasty almost sweet spice of oak. Violets and boot polish, clove and Asian spices, fresh cigar tobacco and baked bell pepper. Full-bodied, complex and dry. Flavours mirror the nose, but double in concentration and detail. An abundance of fruit and wood tannins, medium+ acidity and a core of pure varietal fruit flavours. Young, still developing and will do so for the next ten to fifteen years. Lengthy complex finish. Decant for service if drinking before 2025. Best from 2025 through 2040."
