Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"A blend of fruit from several Hawkes Bay vineyards, a region considered to be New Zealand’s home for the Bordeaux varietals Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit is taken predominantly from the renowned Gimblett Gravels winegrowing district, namely Omahu Gravels, Ngakirkiri and Twyford Gravels. The free-draining gravelly soils and warm conditions of the Gimblett Gravels encourage low yields and devigourated vines.

A superb match with a wide range of cuisine, this wine is intensely flavoured, elegant yet approachable. Berry, plum and spice combine with savoury characters. Matured for 20 months in oak barriques this wine is superbly balanced and complemented by supple tannins."

Sue Courtney, (2016 Vintage)
"Intense crimson-edged blackberry hue with an attractive bouquet of savoury oak, pencil box, blackcurrant and woody herbs that carry through to the palate where there is refreshing brightness of mint infusing the earthy savoury undertones and the succulent plum and blackberry fruit. The tannins are velvety and firm and there are hints of cigar box on the finish where the purity of the fruit and the savouriness of the oak linger harmoniously."

Reviews for the 2015 vintage below…

5 Stars, Top 5 & Best Buy Cuisine NZ Bordeaux Blends Tasting, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"“This looks the part,” commented John Hancock, describing the deep, dense colour that reflects this wine’s depth and personality. Floral, plummy merlot cues have a savoury herbal edge, and a mouthful reveals smooth, silky texture, juicy fruit, tangy balance and friendly tannins. And all for less than 20 smackers! Try it with herbed veal chops."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Sharply priced, the 2015 vintage is a blend of Merlot (65 per cent), Cabernet Sauvignon (28 per cent) and Malbec (7 per cent), matured for 18 months in oak casks (18 per cent new). Instantly attractive, it is mouthfilling, with very good depth of ripe red-berry, plum and spice flavours, showing good complexity, and a smooth finish. Best drinking 2019+."
