Beautifully focused and expressive Barolo, this wine is becoming a legend. By making a blend of great fruit from largely premium Cru vineyards, Vietti is able to present an exceptionally complete, complex yet approachable red that is as an "overachiever" among Barolo of the price. From one of Piedmont's historic leaders, this is wonderful and supreme value to decant now or cellar.
94/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous (2015 Vintage)"Vietti's 2015 Barolo Castiglione is soft, silky and pliant, all qualities that make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Floral and nicely lifted, the 2015 is very pretty, if not quite the overachiever it can be. I expect the 2015 will be even more expressive once the tannins soften a bit further. In this tasting, the Castiglione stands out for its freshness and energy. Time in the glass brings out an extra layer of textural breadth and resonance that is not immediately apparent. Drink 2020 – 2030."
94/100 James Suckling (2015 Vintage)
"Plenty of perfume here with abundant roses and violets, as well as spice-dusted red cherries and hints of orange rind. The palate has depth and density with a sense of power and detail to the tannins. Long, dense and fresh."
94/100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2015 Vintage)
"The 2015 Barolo Castiglione is a soft and elegant expression with marked freshness and delineated fruit. Indeed, Luca Currado maintains that 2015 was not a hot vintage per se, and any jammy notes that might appear in the vintage may have to do with an overzealous approach to leaf pulling during the summer season. Old habits die hard, he says, and leaving the leaves intact contributes to the colour stabilization of the wine and the successful management of its acidity. From an analytical point of view, this wine does flaunt that much-needed inner crispness. It adds focus and sharpness to the layers of dark, succulent fruit that appear on first nose."
91/100 Wine Spectator (2015 Vintage)
"This is sleek and tightly wound, displaying cherry, currant, leafy tobacco and iron flavours. A firm grip locks down the finish, with a lingering element of sweet fruit. Best from 2022 through 2033."
