A interesting take on Hawkes Bay Pinot Gris owing to the fact that this also includes 4% Gewürztraminer & 1% Albariño. Vidal has included these varieties to give the wine extra aromatic and textural complexity. Lifted and exotic florals, with honeysuckle and ginger aromas. This finishes dry with lovely weight and lusciousness.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Enticing aromas of baked apple, spice and pear combine with floral notes and lead into a dry and softly textured palate showing lovely fruit purity. Low yielding vines with good fruit exposure have resulted in good flavour intensity and ripeness. Small parcels of Gewürztraminer (4%) and Albarino (1%) were blended into the wine adding further complexity and interest."
4 Stars Cuisine Pinot Gris Tasting, February 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Testament that Pinot Gris can perform well in many of our wine regions this wine leans more to the riper spectrum with honeysuckle and ginger aromas. The palate has poise and texture with a ripe stone fruit profile with a medium dry finish."

"This is an in-your-face pinot gris if ever I’ve sipped one. There’s a lot happening in the glass and that could be because this vintage has splashes of gewürztraminer and albariño added for extra aromatic and textural complexity. Heaving with baked pear and spiced apple alongside exotic floral notes and hints of honeysuckle, it’s a deliciously dry Pinot Gris with sauce and weight and lusciousness."
4 Stars & 17.5+/20 Raymond Chan, August 2018 (2018 Vintage)
"Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on the edge. The nose is elegantly proportioned with fresh aromas of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with exotic florals, and a subtle amalgam of honeysuckle and herbs. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has good weight and presence with restrained flavours of white and yellow stonefruits interwoven with exotic, perfumed florals and hints of honeysuckle. The fruit is upfront and fills the palate, and light, phenolic textures carry the wine with balanced acidity to an elegant finish. This is an up-front dry Pinot Gris with good weight and flavours of stonefruits, florals and honey, on a light-textured palate with an elegant finish. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine over the next 2-3 years. A blend of 95% Pinot Gris, 4% Gewurztraminer and 1% Albarino, predominantly from the Ohiti Gravels with parcels from Te Awanga and the ‘Joseph Soler’ vineyard, Bridge Pa Triangle, cool-fermented to 13.0% alc. and 4.5 g/L RS, the wine aged months on lees."
