68% Merlot & 32% Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"This classic Hawkes Bay blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflects the 2017 vintage and our premium vineyard sites in the Gimblett Gravels. Expressive dark red fruits and spicy oak aromas lead into a palate showing depth, balance and length. Food Matches: Lamb, beef and hard cheeses."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"A consistently good buy. Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (20 per cent new), the 2017 vintage is a blend of Merlot (68 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (32 per cent). Fragrant, full-coloured and fruit-packed, it has very good body and depth of vibrant, plummy, spicy flavours. An elegant, still-youthful red, it should be at its best from 2021 onwards."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"This is splendidly fruited and fragrant on the nose showing blackcurrant, plum, violet, toasted nut and subtle spice notes, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that is supple and silky. It is brightly expressed with succulent fruit intensity, backed by rounded mouthfeel and fine, grainy tannins. At its best: now to 2022."
