75% Merlot & 25% Cabernet Sauvignon

We were quite taken with the 2015 vintage of this wine at our Vidal tasting with winemaker Hugh Crichton but we were absolutely blown away by the fact you could get a wine of this quality and this kind of price. The 2016 is a fantastic follow up and still provides fantastic value for money!

Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"This classic Hawkes Bay blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflects the 2016 vintage and our premium vineyard sites in the Gimblett Gravels. Expressive dark red fruits and spicy oak aromas lead into a palate showing depth, balance and length. Food Matches: Lamb, beef and hard cheeses."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"A consistently good buy. The 2016 vintage is a blend of Merlot (75 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25 per cent), matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (22 per cent new). Deep and youthful in colour, it is fragrant, mouthfilling and smooth, with strong plum, berry and spice flavours, gentle tannins, and lots of drink-young appeal."

4 Stars & 18.0+/20 Raymond Chan, August 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is elegant in proportion with aromas of ripe black plums entwined with blackcurrant and redcurrant notes, and fresh and dark herb elements. The aromatics build to show a fine, concentrated core. Medium-full bodied, the palate has vibrant and sweetly rich flavours of ripe blackcurrants and black plums along with dark herbs and hints of nutty oak, forming an elegantly concentrated heart. The palate is softly mouthfilling and fine, grainy tannins unfold to coat the palate and provide an even, positive structure and grip. The wine carries with soft acid drive to a finish with good textures. This is an elegantly proportioned and concentrated Merlot/Cabernet with black plum and blackcurrant flavours that softly fill the palate, which is supported by fine, grainy structure. Match with roast lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon from estate Gimblett Gravels vineyards, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 19 months in 20% new French oak barrels. 18.0+/20 Aug 2018 "

91/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Loads of ripe berry fruits with plums and blackberries then suggestions of olive, tobacco and toasty French Oak. Dry and almost full-bodied on the palate with flavours of dark berries and plums. Plenty of firm textured youthful tannins and acidity to match. These will easy with food and time. A nicely packed and tasty example. Best from late 2019 (unless decanted and served with food) through to 2028+."
