96/100 Cameron Douglas MS, May 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Seductive, enticing, complex and glamorous bouquet of Chardonnay. Aromas of roasted cashew and yellow peach, baked golden apple then grapefruit, a cheesy, whipped cream moment and easy to spot wood spices. On the palate – tense, vibrant, weighty, youthful and dry. As complex and glamorous as the bouquet suggests with flavours of white and yellow orchard fruits, wood spice and a flinty, leesy, toasty harmonious core. Quite youthful with a refreshing acid line, very fine wood tannin layer, lees spice and mineral finish. Delicious now though I do recommend decanting, even better in 2021. A wine of investment that will be the talk of many fabulous dinner parties through to 2030 and probably beyond."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"The latest rendition of this iconic chardonnay shows ripe nectarine, rockmelon, lemon peel and vanilla characters on the nose with nuances of brioche and flint. The concentrated palate exhibits outstanding depth and expansive mouthfeel, superbly enhanced by creamy texture and firm acidity, providing excellent structure. A magnificent offering displaying great line and length. At its best: 2020 to 2028."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"The 2018 vintage of Vidal's flagship Chardonnay was grown in two vineyards (Lyons and Kokako), hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (45 per cent new). Still extremely youthful, it is bright, light lemon/green, with a highly fragrant, complex, slightly smoky bouquet. Weighty and dry, it is a very elegant and ageworthy wine, with intense, crisp, peachy, citrusy flavours that build to a long finish. Best drinking 2022+."
