Vasse Felix equals high quality Margaret River Cabernet and this entry level label would have many producers wishing it were their top label. This is the fifth vintage release of a Cabernet Sauvignon under the Filius title. The 2018 is ripe and generous and could have you thinking you should drink now, but be assured it will last for many years. A terrific wine.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Blackcurrant and dark cherry perfumes are complemented by savoury notes of miso, mushroom, dried oregano and forest twigs. Underlying hints of custard and charry, spicy oak round out the lovely aroma. Tangy, bright black cherry fruit arrives on a pure, polished stone texture. This builds to a powdery, long, dry finish with lingering black forest cake flavours."

"Bright crimson-purple, this has provenance written large across its visage, likewise purity. Restructuring of the Vasse Felix offers to the market has lifted, not compromised, this dark, fruit-filled Cabernet."

"Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. The nose shows good elevation with red to blackcurrant and mulberry scents intermingling with cedary tobacco characters, bay leaf and spice. Despite the cooler vintage this Cabernet shows remarkable richness and polish with a combination of red and black currant fruits flooding the elegant, medium bodied palate. Soft and juicy like in its feel, mulberry, cedary tobacco characters, light earthy bay leaf and spice then chime in to provide additional complexity. Glossy fine grained tannins are beautifully integrated. Concludes with a long red to blackcurrant and bay leaf tinged aftertaste. A Margaret River benchmark for entry level Cabernet – fantastic value."

"Fine boned, savoury, refreshing, dark fruit, spice, violet and dried herb perfume. Tannin is dense, acidity settled, and the finish is satisfying. It’s refreshing and sophisticated. Value!"
94/100 Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"Mighty good cabernet to be the third tier of Vasse's cabernet-dominant brigade. This has slightly more palate grunt than previous wines, but still with that distinctive angular style. Plenty of leafy black fruits with an edge of savoury black olive. So bright and with so much energy on the palate. Cellar 8 years."
