Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Bright garnet hue with fresh red fruit aromas of wild strawberry, sweet cherry, and raspberry with fragrant potpourri and a touch of cedar. The vibrant fruit and intriguing spice layer wonderfully with the silky fine tannins and creamy texture highlighted by an electric acidity that gives the wine tremendous energy. The warmer growing season resulted in an early harvest for the Waitaki, creating a beautifully concentrated wine with a touch more tannin than in cooler years, yet still showcasing all the classic Waitaki features. A wine that is engaging lithe, and fragrant in its youth and will definitely reward cellaring."

"Weighty and supple, the classy 2016 vintage is one of the Waitaki Valley's most satisfying reds yet. Deep ruby, it is floral, with mouthfilling body, generous, very vibrant cherry, plum, dried-herb and spice flavours, fresh acidity and velvety tannins. Still youthful, it is already very open and expressive."

5 Stars & 19.5-/20 (97) Raymond Chan, November 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Moderately dark ruby-red with slight purple hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is fragrant and perfumed with high-toned red florals and dark-red cherry and berry fruit, with piquant dark herbs and nuances of whole bunch stalk elements. This is beautifully intense and fine in penetration. Medium to medium-full bodied, the fruit is vibrantly rich and sweet, with dark-red cherry and berry flavours and subtle notes of dark herbs and an array of red and violet florals. The mouthfeel is refined, possessing excellent freshness and vitality, with fresh acidity and very fine-grained tannin extraction. The wine flows with very good energy leading to a long, sustained aromatic finish of cherries and berries with fragrant florals. This is a beautifully elegant Pinot Noir built on dark-red cherry and berry fruit with fragrant aromatics and subtle herb and whole bunch nuances on a refined palate. Match with poultry dishes over the next 7-8+ years. Clone 5 and 115 from the Waitaki Valley, vines planted in 2001, fermented with 20% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 22 days on skins and aged 11 months in 29% new French oak. 630 dozen made."

92/100 James Suckling (2016 Vintage)
“A cooler and more herbal expression of pinot noir from North Otago’s limestone-studded soils. This has a thread of light red cherry fruit with a tart, lattice-like palate. Acidity zips it up neatly at the finish.”

17/20 Julia Harding MW,, September 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Lightish crimson. Pretty, scented and a little herbal but not green. Dry, subtle and very fresh. Delicate, dry tannins, dry finesse and more red-fruited and you can taste the cooler climate. Smooth, almost chalky."
