Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Sourced from Brookby Hill Vineyard in the Southern Valleys, the grapes were hand harvested and partially de-stemmed before undergoing 50% wild fermentation. 30% whole bunch clusters were added to the ferment for an increased lift in aromatics and structure. The resulting wine was aged in 25% new and seasoned French oak barrels for 11 months. The wine was unfined and unfiltered.
Dark crimson in colour, the bouquet has lifted aromas of violets, blueberries, red liquorice, chalk and a slight mushroom earthiness. The palate is youthful with blackberry and raspberry flavours interlaced with barn yard, pepper, hazelnut husks and cigar box nuances. Silky tannins, charming oak and an elegant structure will insure this wine ages gracefully."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"A stylish pinot from the Southern Valleys district, the complex bouquet shows dark cherry, ripe strawberry, thyme, cedar and warm spice aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that is wonderfully weighted and beautifully flowing. It is rounded and supple with textural mouthfeel, superbly framed by fine-grained tannins. Seductively attractive. At its best: now to 2023."
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, May 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"Immediately varietal, complex, fruity and enticing with aromas of wood spices and dark berries. Flavours of dark cherry, deep red apple skin, plum and red currant. Some fresh wood tension with firm tannins and fresh acid line. Brown baking spice, dark rose, medium weight, youthful and fine. A wine that needs some time to knit together more. Showing some fine complexities and length. Well made. Best from 2021 through 2028+."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"This is an elegant, youthful red, grown in the Southern Valleys. Deep, bright ruby, it is fragrant, with good body (13% alc/vol), strong, berryish, slightly spicy and nutty flavours and shows excellent freshness and complexity and has a savoury, smooth finish."
