Gold Medal & 95/100 – New World Wine Awards 2021
Another superb release from Two Rivers. Winemaker Dave Clouston reckons this is his best yet… a big claim but one we'd agree with and we even think this may prove to be one of the best of Marlborough 2021. This 2021 is a powerhouse of flavour that just explodes in the glass and then on the palate we just love the hint of oyster shell minerality that gives it a real edge. There is nothing shy or subtle but it is also very sophisticated with layers of complexity.
Two Rivers Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a triumph!
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Crops were significantly reduced due to early spring frosts and a cold, wet flowering period. Summer was incredibly dry and this lead to a very early harvest. The resulting fruit quality was outstanding and wines from the 2021 vintage might just be exceptional. Harvested early morning and lightly pressed, the juice was fermented cool, predominately in stainless steel to maximise fruit purity and distinctive varietal character. A small portion was fermented in concrete egg tank and clay amphora to add a grainy texture to the palate. The wine was then aged on light yeast lees for three months to gain complexity and increase mouthfeel.
Bright straw in colour, this classy sauvignon blanc has explosive aromatics of passionfruit, white peach, gooseberry and lime juice that mingle with subtle notes of caper berries and flint. Dry and saline, persistent flavours of white currant, golden kiwi fruit and stone fruit are revealed alongside bright, mouthwatering acidity. The distinctive palate has a gravelly texture and a ripe, pure finish."

"This lives up to its billing as one of the finest sauvignons in the country. The intensely fragrant bouquet shows green rockmelon, kaffir lime, jalapeno and kiwifruit notes, leading to a powerfully concentrated palate displaying outstanding weight and persistency. Brilliantly expressed offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2030."

"Power and intensity with a core of pure, ripe white fleshed fruits, citrus and apple with a wet stone and fresh green herb complexity. Flavours of lemon flesh and apple, pineapple and fresh basil, grapefruit, pith and fruit spice. Refreshing, crisp, silky and salivating textures lead to a long finish. An excellent example that ticks all the boxes of an excellent vintage and faultless winemaking. Drinking best from purchase and through 2025+."

"The classy, distinctive 2021 vintage was grown at four sites in the Awatere and Wairau valleys, and mostly tank-fermented; a small part of the blend was fermented in concrete, egg-shaped vessels and clay amphorae. Bright, light lemon/green, with a fragrant, complex bouquet, it is mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, with penetrating melon, lime and green capsicum flavours, dry (3.2 grams/litre of residual sugar) and lingering. Full of youthful impact, it should be at its best mid-2022+."
95/100 NWWA (2021 Vintage)
"This consistently outstanding label is brilliantly styled by the award-winning winemaker David Clouston, who combines grapes from both Wairau and Awatere Valleys to make Sauvignon in perfect harmony. Ripe gooseberry, nectarine and lime cordial notes with an exuberant finish will brilliantly match velvety goat's cheese on crunchy crostini."

"Holy jalapeno Batman!! One thing’s for certain. The second someone pours a glass of this wine, you’ll be able to smell its crazy punchy pungency from across the room. Or possibly across the street. Who knows – soon you may be overrun by sauvignon blanc zombies clawing at your windows with an unstakeable desire to have what you’re having. With basil, sweet pea, capsicum and nettle-infused niceness on the nose, plus buckets of white peach and passionfruit saturating the palate, it’s delicious."

"Bright, very pale yellow, even colour throughout. The nose is softly full with intense aromas of gooseberries, capsicums interweave elderflower and pine needles, linger with a savoury thread. Medium-bodied, concentrated nuances of gooseberries, limes and capsicums fill the palate, unfolding pine needles, elderflower, along with white spices and savoury lees detail. The fruit is mouth-filling with intensity; savoury elements broaden the palate and provide balance. Rounded mouthfeel supports by mouth-watering acidity and a fine-gravelly texture; lifted white spice lingers to linearity. This is an intricate Sauvignon Blanc with classic flavours enhanced by elegant details and concentration. Match with green-lipped mussels and pork belly bao buns over the next 4-5 years."
