It is no secret that we are great fans of Dave Clouston's Two Rivers wines. We like the way that he is continually seeking improvement; adding twists and tweaking things. Early in 2018 he opened his "Wine Studio" winemaking facility in Blenheim to give him more winemaking options. As with most Marlborough wineries, Sauvignon Blanc is the mainstay of Two Rivers. The Convergence is the premium juice Two Rivers use (there are a number of other labels, mainly exported).

This vintage the fruit is mainly from the Awatere, giving the wine more blackcurrant leaf, fresh herb flavours with a briny/saltiness. A portion of this year's 2018 vintage has been aged in concrete egg and clay amphora. Light and fresh and just starting to open out in the bottle. This is a wine that we think would struggle to win an award at a wine show as it is definitely not in 'yer face' – it is much more subtle and sophisticated than that. This is a Sauvignon to savour and enjoy. A classy effort. 

Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"A convergence of flavours from five separate vineyards located in the Awatere, Southern Valleys and Rapaura sub regions. The grapes were gently pressed and fermented at cool temperatures, in concrete egg, clay amphora and stainless steel, to maximise fruit purity and character. The wine was then aged on fine lees for 3 months, adding texture, complexity and increased mouth-feel to the palate.

Bright straw with green hues, this sauvignon blanc has an abundance of fennel, fresh herbs and tomato leaf aromas that mingle with subtle notes of passionfruit, snow pea and nettle. Dry and salty to taste, persistent flavours of zesty citrus and Greengage plum are revealed alongside bright, crunchy acidity. The flinty yet lively palate has a lovely creamy texture and a long smooth finish."

"The classy 2018 vintage is from five sites in the Awatere, Southern and Wairau valleys. Matured for three months on its yeast lees in stainless steel, clay and concrete vessels, it is weighty, with tropical-fruit and herbaceous flavours, showing excellent depth and vibrancy, that build to a very harmonious, long, dry (3 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. A label worth discovering."

"Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is softly full with gentle concentration of white and green stonefruit aromas, along with gooseberry and fresh herb notes and suggestions of nuts and minerals. This has an underlying freshness and clarity, and is mouthwatering. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has bright and vibrant fruit flavours gooseberries with white and green stonefruits, and nuances of fresh herbs. The fruit has good presence and is mouthfilling with rich textures. Some phenolic grip, power and linear drive is present and the fruit is supported by fresh, lacy acidity. The wine flows to a very long and sustained finish. This is a surprisingly weighty and mouthfilling, textured Sauvignon Blanc with clarity of gooseberry, stonefruit and herb flavours with fresh acidity. Serve with salads and vegetables, and Mediterranean fare over the next 2+ years. Fruit from the ‘Richmond Brook’, ‘Dew’, ‘Coles’, ‘The Spring’ and ‘Grovetown’ vineyards in the Awatere, Southern Valleys and Rapaura sub-regions, vines 10-20 y.o., fermented in concrete egg, clay amphora and stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 3 g/L RS, the wine aged 3 months on lees in concrete."
