Trophy for Cabernet Sauvignon Dominant Red – Hawkes Bay A&P Wine Show 2020
Gold Medal – Hawkes Bay A&P Wine Show 2020
Trinity Hill The Gimblett is one of our favourite Hawkes Bay Bordeaux variety blends. This label always offers plenty and we consider it to be incredible value. This vintage blend has a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than previous vintages and followers of the label will not be disappointed as it has all the depth and richness we expect.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"“The Gimblett” is traditionally made from a blend of grape varieties. The Cabernet family gives structure and fresh aromatics. Merlot gives richness and mid-palate weight with Malbec helping with complexity, density and colour.
The result is a wine with exotically perfumed aromatics that include ripe blackberries and red fruits plus hints of florals and dried herbs. There is superb clarity of flavours on the palate. Structurally the wine is complex, with textural tannins. This structure will allow the development of further complexity over the next 10 years."
96/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, October 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Absolutely beautiful. Effortless glide, satiny texture, loads of concentrated dark berry fruits, sage and rosemary herbal characters, succulent, fine, al dente tannins and licks of malty richness. Long, so long, spreads beautifully and hugs every corner of the palate. A real experience. Memorable wine."
95/100 Annual Gimblett Gravels Vintage Selection, Andrew Callaird MW, July 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Medium deep crimson. Intense blackcurrant mulberry ginger wild fennel aromas. Generous inky wine with deep set blackcurrant mulberry fruits, fine chalky dense tannins, plentiful mocha, vanilla nutmeg oak, lovely mid-palate richness and fresh long integrated acidity. Finishes chalky/ grippy firm and a touch oaky right now but all the elements are in balance for the long term."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"The sturdy, dark 2018 vintage is a Hawke’s Bay blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Set for a long life, it is fragrant and full-bodied, with concentrated, ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, well-integrated oak, and a fresh, finely structured finish."
Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2021 (2018 Vintage)
"Wow – what a fantastic bouquet – packed with aromas of wild and farmed dark berries, a swathe of meaty fleshy black olives and field mushrooms, baking spices, smoky wood and cigar. On the palate – powerful, rich, fruity, toasty, smoky and dry. Youthful and tense with an abundance of tannins, acidity, oak and savoury complexity. A core of black fruit flavours, tar, tobacco and stony soils. Long finish. Delicious! Best drinking from late 2022 through 2030+."
