Gold Medal – Hawkes Bay A&P Wine Awards
5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, December 2019 (2019 Vintage)
"The first release of a new, premium syrah label that, in price at least, sits just behind their syrah flagship, Homage. Powerful yet supremely elegant syrah with floral, violet, plum, spice, black pepper, anise and nutty oak flavours. The wine is impressively dense with a structure of ripe tannins that suggest good cellaring potential."
5 Stars & 97/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"From the Gimblett Gravels, this spectacular syrah shows Black Doris plum, blackberry, violet, cedar and anise notes on the nose with a light seasoning of pepper spice. The palate exhibits outstanding concentration and power, while remaining properly structured and harmonious, leading to a splendidly long silky finish. The wine offers terrific fruit purity with stylish oak and spicy nuances, making it immensely complex and engaging. At its best: 2024 to 2034."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"The 2018 vintage is a highly seductive young red, grown at three sites in the Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay, and matured in an even split of new French oak barriques and a large French oak oval. Dark and purple-flushed, it is beautifully fragrant, mouthfilling, rich and supple, with highly concentrated, ripe plum and black-pepper flavours, a hint of liquorice, and impressive harmony and length. Best drinking 2025+."
Rated Outstanding & 96/100 Cameron Douglas MS, January 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Now that’s a bouquet to get involved with….. aromas of ripe fruit layered between new oak and dry stone mineral suggestions with an enticing synergy of complexity and power. On the palate – fantastic! Packed with ripe red berry fruits of raspberry then dark cherry, plum and spices. Vanilla and sweet clove, iron shavings, clay and stone. Dry, not too weighty, youthful, detailed, complex and ready if you want it to be. A fine wine with complexity and length, flavour, youth and vibrato. Firm tannins, youthful and ripe, a back bone of acidity adding to a long finish. Best drinking from 2021 through 2026."
Rated Excellent to Outstanding, Mark Henderson, ODT (2018 Vintage)
"Fragrant, lavender, spices, red fruits, charry herbs. Very powerful structure frames the palate, with dusty stones, iron filings, red fruits, black pepper and spices. A depth and intensity more reminiscent of the Northern Rhone with serious complexity and interest. Amazing depth here and clearly built for the long haul. Fabulous."
