Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"The wine shows attractive brambly, blackberry-like ripe fruits along with spicy and exotic complexity. The palate is rich and textural with salivating soft tannins. Licorice, chocolate and sarsaparilla flavours linger on the finish. This wine will age extremely well for at least five years but equally can be drunk in its youth."

5 Stars & 95/100 Gourmet Traveller, March 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"New Zealand’s first tempranillo producer still makes one of the best with a proven ability to age well in bottle. An intense and firmly structured red with dark berry, violet and spicy oak flavours plus a savoury/earthy influence."

4 1/2 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"This is a consistently attractive Hawke's Bay red, full of personality. The 2015 vintage was matured in tanks and French and American oak barriques. The colour is dark and youthful; the palate is mouthfilling, with strong, vibrant cassis, plum and spice flavours, gently seasoned with oak, and fine-grained tannins. A very elegant, age-worthy wine, still very youthful, it's well worth cellaring to 2018+."

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2015 (2015 Vintage)
"Youthful, fragrant and inviting, the bouquet shows dark plum, blueberry, violet and vanilla characters with a touch of black pepper. The palate offers wonderful fruit purity and intensity, well supported by rounded mouthfeel and velvety texture, brilliantly structured by fine, chalky tannins. This is a gorgeous expression of the variety destined to evolve beautifully. At its best: now to 2021."

4 Stars & 18.0+/20 Raymond Chan, October 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red with youthful purple hues, This has a softly packed and densely concentrated nose which open in volume, showing aromas of ripe dark raspberry, black plum and black cherry fruit along with blackberries and notes of mulberries with dark chocolate. Medium-full bodied, the palate is fulsome and rounded with rich flavours of ripe dark raspberries, plums, blackberries and mulberries. The fruit is supported by grainy tannin extracting lending plenty of structure and grip, with soft, ripe, integrated acidity providing a smooth flow. The structure carries the rich flavours to a full, firm finish with savoury dark-red and black fruits. This is a fulsome Tempranillo with ripe dark raspberry, plum, blackberry and mulberry fruit flavours, and plenty of tannin extraction that carries the wine. Match with roasted lamb, beef and venison, and slow-cooked game meats over the next 5-6 years. Fruit from the Gimblett Gravels, hand-picked, destemmed, but not crushed, and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in stainless-steel tanks as well as French and American oak barriques."
