Gold Medal – UK Sommelier Wine Awards 2019
Gold Medal – New World Wine Awards 2018

Tin Pot Hut Sauvignon Blanc is no stranger to accolades having amassed a huge quantity over the years and the 2018 has just picked up yet another Gold Medal, this time at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2019 held recently in the UK.

Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"A complex and elegant wine with classic characters of blackcurrant bud and fresh cut thyme. Underlying ripe fruit and mineral notes from the grapes grown in the Blind River sub-region of Marlborough combine well with the more tropical notes of passionfruit and melon from the Wairau Valley vineyards. A stylish and pleasingly rich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant aromatics and a fine balance of acidity leading to a lingering finish."

Tinpot Hut's owner and winemaker Fiona Turner began developing her Blind River "Home Block" vineyard in Marlborough's Awatere Valley with husband Hamish in 2005. Originally part of a large sheep farming station, Fiona acknowledged the origins of her Home Block by naming her range of wines after the historic "Tinpot Hut"; a Marlborough landmark frequented by local high country musterers."

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim Wine Orbit, April 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"This is fabulously fruited and expressed on the nose showing kiwifruit, feijoa, lime peel and basil aromas, followed by an intensely flavoured palate that is juicy and pristine. The wine offers excellent fruit purity and vibrant mouthfeel, leading to a persistent refreshing finish. At its best: now to 2021."

Gold Medal UK Sommelier Awards 2019 (2018 Vintage)
Judges comments: "Elevating this wine to a Gold medal, team leader Jan Konetzki praised its ‘savoury edge’ that lifted it above the competition and gave it ‘more character than just fruit’. Pointing to its ‘dry, fresh, citrus and lees flavours’, he also noted its aromatic ‘hoppy’ nose.

For Prestonfield House’s Dave Cushley, however, it was the ‘lightness of touch’ that won him over, and he praised this ‘elegant, calm wine, with a finish that demands you return to the glass’."

Rebecca Gibb MW, Decanter UK (2018 Vintage)
"A rich, aromatic and supple style redolent of tropical fruits ranging from pineapple to passionfruit. There's a fine line of acidity that zip through the round juicy palate, leaving a bright medium-length finish reminiscent of elderflower and passionfruit."
