The new vintage of Three Dark Horses Shiraz comes complete with some rather impressive wraps from Cuisine magazine. A favourite of ours for a good few years now this McLaren Vale Shiraz is a big, plush, fruity number that opens up in the glass to reveal plenty more while its sheer drinkability is nothing but pleasure. Of the five Australian Shiraz awarded 5 Stars, this is the only one to be awarded 'Best Buy' status. It's a stunner!
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Dense and expressive. Aromas of forest berries, all spice and musk. Flavours of blackberry, plum and chocolate. Some spice with a touch of earth. Soft and rich with a plush mid-palate. Gentle but persistent tannin giving it flow and a long, even finish."
5 Stars, Top 5 & Best Buy, Cuisine Shiraz Tasting, June 2021 (2020 Vintage)
"Although Three Dark Horses is a relatively new producer (started in 2009), the fruit for this is from an established site – Bruno Romano’s vineyard in Seaview, McLaren Vale. This was the original source of fruit that launched Three Dark Horses, the name referring to the three generations of men in the family who run this winery. The maritime influence comes through with subtle saltiness to temper the rich, spicy red fruit. Bright, fresh and easy-drinking, this weighty, mouth-filling shiraz punches above its weight for the price and will sit comfortably at either the dinner table or on the couch in front of Netflix."
Reviews for the 2019 vintage below…
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Wonderfully ripe and perfumed, the wine shows blackberry, Black Doris plum, floral, subtle spice and toasted nut aromas on the nose, followed by a richly flavoursome palate offering terrific fruit power and intensity. It's smooth and supple with a lengthy velvety finish. At its best: now to 2029."
93/100 Dan Murphy's Wine Panel (2019 Vintage)
"Gorgeous, supple, dark purple, fully ripened fruit. So succulent it will dribble down your chin. Wonderful depth of plummy, boysenberry laden fruit flavours. Not complicated, just a very attractive glass of wine. It gets an extra point for value."
