Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2020
Don't under-estimate the quality of the Pinot Noir under this label. The 2019 Thornbury is a superb Bendigo Pinot Noir made with fruit sourced from the premium Zebra Vineyards. The previous 2018 vintage scooped up three trophies at the NZ Wine of the Year Awards in 2019, including the highly coveted Champion Pinot Noir trophy plus the Champion Single Vineyard Red Wine trophy and Best Central Otago Wine. The 2019 effort has followed that up with another Gold Medal at the 2020 NZIWS. A pretty good effort we say!
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Central Otago, with its distinctive mountainous terrain and long growing season provides stunning expressions of Pinot Noir. This Thornbury wine is no exception; beautifully perfumed, richly coloured with aromas of dark cherry and lush plum. This seductively smooth Pinot Noir offers outstanding value. The 2019 Thornbury Pinot Noir is a beautifully perfumed, rich and full-bodied with hints of spice and dark cherry fruit notes. The palate is soft and juicy with a velvety texture."
94/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, October 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Silken-textured pinot noir with blackcurrant, black cherry, dark-fleshed plum and spicy flavours. A ripe, succulent wine that’s deliciously drinkable now and offers good value at this price."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Sweetly fruited and instantly appealing, the wine shows dark cherry, thyme, warm spice and cedar characters. It's equally satisfying on the palate, delivering terrific fruit purity and intensity, combined with velvety texture and refined tannins, finishing long and delicious. At its best: now to 2026."
