We try a lot of South Australian Shiraz and are always looking out for ones that offer the X-factor of value. We have to say there is a huge amount of indifferent (some downright nasty) Aussie reds that sell in the Sub-$15.00 price range, so it was a revelation to try this wee star of a wine.

From the Langhorne region (South of McLaren Vale) and made by ex-Villa Maria, Matua winemaker Corey Ryan for Australia's innovative Fourth Wave Wines. Deep, dark colour with ripe black fruits balanced by a spicy savouriness; the wine caresses the palate – there are no hard edges and finishes nice and dry. Although this will cellar for a while, we think this just hits the spot for drink now enjoyment.

Winery notes
"Inspired by humankind’s evolution through thousands of years, The Theory of Evolution Wines embody the inevitable journey of wine lovers to enjoying the world’s classic great varieties. Winemaker Corey Ryan has crafted each varietally expressive and well balanced wine from established low yielding vineyards to deliver quality and value that will appeal to all wine drinkers.

Sourced from a selection of mature, dry-grown vineyards in Langhorne Creek managed by Jim Zerella. The fruit is partially hand-harvested before de-stemming and cool fermentation in small two tonne open fermenters with regular hand plunging. Matured in seasoned French oak (20% new French)
for six months before bottling with minimal filtration and sulphur addition.

Vivid red / purple in colour with an expansive nose of blackberries, blood plums and chocolatey oak. The palate is opulent and inviting with dark plum and blackcurrant fruit flavours matched by dried herbs, cloves and subtle spicy oak. Fine-grained savoury tannins provide definition to the impressively long finish. This powerful but well balanced wine is very approachable now but will gain character and complexity for up to ten years cellaring."
