From the warm climes of the Bay of Islands comes The Landing Boathouse Vino Rosso is a charming blend of the Italian varieties of Sangiovese and Montepulciano. It has just enough Italianesque taste and style to make it interestingly different. It is also quite delicious!
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"The Boathouse Vino Rosso is a real charmer, a versatile food friendly red blend. Italian varieties Sangiovese and Montepulciano deliver a mouth-watering juicy fruit profile that harmonises with the structure of the French Cabernet Franc & Merlot. Juicy dark red fruit of sweet cherry, plum and blackberries are balanced by a toasted oak backdrop and long, dry fine tannins. A perfect partner for lighter dishes as well as game and pasta."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2019 Vintage)
"Already drinking well, the distinctive 2019 vintage is an estate-grown Northland blend of mostly Sangiovese and Montepulciano, with lesser amounts of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Hand-picked and barrique-aged for a year, it is full-coloured, fresh, mouthfilling and smooth, with blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent ripeness and depth, and a welcoming fragrance. Best drinking 2022+."
91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Attractively fruited and beautifully fragrant, showing dark plum, blueberry, thyme, almond and subtle spice notes on the nose. It's succulent and plump on the palate with fleshy texture and fine-grained tannins, finishing long and supple. The wine offers sweet fruit flavours together with spicy/savoury nuances, making it delectably appealing. A blend of sangiovese, montepulciano, cabernet franc and merlot. At its best: now to 2025."
90/100 Cameron Douglas MS, July 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Made with a blend of Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cabernet Franc and Merlot – all varieties directly from The Landing vineyards. Aromas and flavours of dark berries and Ligurian olives, dried herbs and plums, soft brown sugar and old violets, balckberry and a touch of marmite and boot-polish. The oak adds in a layer of dark spices and toastiness. Medium acidity, medium+ weight with a velvet texture from fine tannins. A balanced and well made wine with a harmonious core of fruit, texture, length and finish. A lovely wine ready to pair with many different dishes from classic Italian to Duke Hotel in Russell. Best drinking is from today and through 2023."
