Theo Coles, Winemaker notes (2020 Vintage)
"Zealandia Pinot Noir brings all the complexity and diversity of North Canterbury soils and exposures together in one harmonious expression to create a unique ‘New-Zealand-ness’ in the glass. Spicy, rocky, sloes, fine tannins.
Fruit is hand harvested from gravel, limestone, and clay vineyards in North Canterbury. The grapes were destemmed, with a small portion left whole bunch, and fermented with indigenous yeasts with a total of six weeks skin maceration, only one foot plunge and no pumpovers. The wine is then pressed off and allowed to mature in tank and tinajas before being transferred to a varitey of old barrels for one year before being bottled unfined and unfiltered and just a small touch of SO2."
