There's nothing quite as gorgeous as a Riesling with a bit of bottle age and being able to pick up one of this nature at this kind of price, we really are spoilt. Lush stonefruits and ripe lemon citrus marry beautifully with subtle florals and hints of honey. This Riesling has developed more of a bees-waxey feel to the texture since we last tasted it, yet it is still bright and fresh with vibrant acidity and a fine mineral edge. Simply gorgeous.
Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"The fruit for this wine was sourced from a single Waipara Valley vineyard. Aromas of nectarine, citrus fruits and lemon blossom are married with flavours of tangerine and key lime. This wine has retained natural sweetness balanced by ripe mineral acidity to create a classical, low alcohol, Germanic style rieslng."
19/20 Joelle Thomson, October 2020 (2013 Vintage)
"Haydon Good’s experience in making Riesling for Clemens Busch in the Mosel, Germany, has been invaluable. One of his key learnings was to make picking decisions for Riesling based on acidity then to balance the wine with residual sugar, depending on the season. This must be why he makes such stellar wines for Crater Rim. This is one of my favourite off-dry whites under $25 on the market today. It is seven years old and tastes as fresh as a daisy. Stunning value for money."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2017 (2013 Vintage)
"This is richly fruited and delectably expressed on the nose showing mango, lemon curd, toast, honey and spice aromas. The palate is succulent and opulent, and delivers superbly fruit concentration and creamy texture, brilliantly complemented by refreshing acidity. A powerful rendition of the variety offering loads of attractive flavours. At its best: now."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2013 Vintage)
"Light yellow/green, the 2013 vintage has excellent drive and depth, with peachy, spicy flavours, low alcohol (9.5 per cent), gentle sweetness and lovely harmony."
