Winemaker Hayden Good identified a special parcel of fruit which was set aside for this wine. Just released this is certainly 'up there' in terms of quality and we are very lucky to a wine such as this to offer at an 'everyday' price. All we can say is, that when wines are this good and sell at this price, be in. It's not an 'everyday' occurrence. Obviously we are quite impressed by the quality this wine offers.

"This Crater Rim 2020 Waipara Valley Reserve Pinot Noir was sourced from our family owned vineyards in the Waipara Valley. The vines were low cropped and sustainably managed to provide fruit of great flavour, depth, structure and integrity. The fruit was fermented in small open vats using natural yeasts followed by 15 months maturation on lees in new and seasoned French oak barriques. After barrel maturation the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Aromas of dark cherry, plum and roasted hazelnut followed by sumptuous palate that is concentrated and lavishly textured. A true expression of Waipara Pinot Noir."

"This is magnificently composed and immensely complex, showing dark berry, wild thyme, spicy oak and forest floor characters on the nose. The concentrated palate is both powerful and refined with excellent depth and silky flow. It's richly textured and expansive with an impressively long sophisticated finish. The Crater Rim takes its name from the twin craters of the ancient Akaroa and Lyttelton volcanos. Eruptions from these majestic landforms in ages past gifted the surrounding land with an enduring fertility.

The Crater Rim's first yineyard was planted above Akaroa township and the significance of this location in terms of its climatic effect on the whole region of Canterbury meant this brand would extend to include plantings in additional sub-regionsof Waipara, Omihi and Banks Peninsula and Central Otago.

Waipara, in North Canterbury's hills, is now the home base for The Crater Rim where specific sub-regional terriors contribute to the wines produced on their vineyards. Exceptional Pinot Noir is produced at The Crater Rim's winery site, Omihi Rise, also in North Canterbury. The Frahar Vineyard in Waipara also supplies Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

The Crater Rim is a frequent recipient of awards, including multiple medals in the New World Wine Awards and regular reviews by Sam Kim of Wine Orbit.
