Winemaker Hayden Good identified a special parcel of fruit which was set aside for this wine. Just released this is certainly 'up there' in terms of quality and we are very lucky to a wine such as this to offer at an 'everyday' price. All we can say is, that when wines are this good and sell at this price, be in. It's not an 'everyday' occurrence. Obviously we are quite impressed by the quality this wine offers.
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"This Crater Rim 2017 Waipara Valley Reserve Pinot Noir was sourced from our family owned vineyards in the Waipara Valley. The vines were low cropped and sustainably managed to provide fruit of great flavour, depth, structure and integrity. The fruit was fermented in small open vats using natural yeasts followed by 15 months maturation on lees in new and seasoned French oak barriques. After barrel maturation the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
Aromas of dark cherry, plum and roasted hazelnut followed by sumptuous palate that is concentrated and lavishly textured. A true expression of Waipara Pinot Noir."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"A compelling rendition of the variety; the gloriously expressed bouquet shows dark cherry, thyme, tar, floral and smoky cedar characters, leading to a powerfully concentrated palate that is both rich and elegant. It is totally seductive with layers of delicious fruit flavours as well as savoury nuances, backed by seamlessly integrated fine tannins. At its best: now to 2026."
