Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"The growing conditions here in Marlborough, mean that it is well-suited for the production of world class Chardonnay. We have a relatively cool climate which results in a long, even growing season which is great for flavour development. This means that we can make a style of Chardonnay which balances concentration and complexity, whilst retaining the finesse that a higher natural acidity brings – which is unashamedly the style we like to drink! We have the Mendoza clone of Chardonnay and the vines are 38 years old now, the wine is made using traditional techniques.
The parcels for this 2018 release were all fermented in large format French oak demi-muids (25% new). All parcels spent a long time on full lees to provide added texture and complexity. All parcels underwent malo-lactic fermentation and spent 10 months on full lees before final blending.
Lifted aromas of grapefruit, toasted almond, and white nectarine are complemented by smoky, savoury notes, white florals and hints of spice. These aromas follow on to complex, supple palate with real depth of flavour including grapefruit, fresh fig and white stone-fruit as well as savoury, mineral notes. Well integrated toasty oak and a lingering, spicy persistence complete this wine."
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, November 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"A very engaging bouquet of Chardonnay, varietal, even, balanced, nicely complex, layers of oak and fruit, just enough toasty smoky wood layers, wood spice and concentration. Flavours on the palate suggest grapefruit and white peach, lemon, quince and vanilla. Very youthful with plenty of acidity, medium+ weight, lots of palate tension, fruit flavours, a chalky texture and lengthy finish. Decant for service and enjoy from today and through 2024. "

93/100 Nick Stock (2017 Vintage)
"Some rich melon, peach and spiced-biscuit aromas leading to a palate that has a very smooth, deeply weighted core of fresh stone-fruit and melon flavours. Lightly toasty finish."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Raymond Chan, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Full, light golden-yellow colour with some depth and slight green hues, paler edged. The nose is full with harmoniously layered aromas of yellow stonefruits entwined with subtle creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak notes, with some complexing oxidative detail. This has freshness, substance and balance. Medium-bodied, the palate has rich and plush, stylishly concentrated flavours of yellow stonefruits along with nutty oak, and oxidative elements. The flavours form a rich core, unfolding mealy, creamy and nutty nuances. The wine flows along a finely-textured phenolic line with subtle grip, and soft acidity provides freshness and energy. The wine carries with some underlying power to a soft, lingering finish. This is a rich and gently plush Chardonnay with stonefruit, nutty and oxidative complexities on a fine-textured palate with style, power and drive. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4 years. Predominantly Mendoza and a small amount of clone 6 fruit, from 28 y,o, vines from the ‘TWR Home Block’, fermented in French oak demi-muids to 12.9% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees in 35% new oak, undergoing 100% MLF. Certified BioGro organic. 273 cases made."
