Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2019
Gold Medal – New Zealand Wine of the Year Awards 2019
Te Awa Single Estate Chardonnay has had quite a run at the award shows in previous vintages. The 2016 vintage won Trophy for Champion Wine of The Show at the Royal Easter Show 2018 and the 2017 won the Trophy for Champion Chardonnay at the NZIWS 2018 coming right on the back of a Top Ten, 5 Star in Cuisine. With impressive pedigree we expect the 2018 to follow suit.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"This wine is a classic expression of Hawkes Bay Chardonnay. The aromatic nose is reminiscent of citrus blossom and stone fruit supported by notes of Crème Brulee and grilled nuts. The palate is concentrated and complex with citrus fruit notes being balanced by richness derived from ageing on the yeast lees. Excellent focus and concentration on the palate, which then leads to a long and sustained finish."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"Fragrant, with 'struck-match' aromas, the 2018 vintage is a mouthfilling wine with generous, ripe stone-fruit flavours, balanced acidity, and accentuated, smoky notes adding complexity. A powerful style statement, it is a lively, age-worthy wine, likely to be at its best 2021+."

5 Stars, Top 10 & Best Buy, Cuisine Chardonnay Tasting, August 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"A familiar style from this label with the expected weight and richness supported by roasted stone fruits and rich baking spices. The fruit and the oak slot neatly into place, giving the wine a defined structure and polish. The wine will benefit from further ageing to develop more complexity and its full potential."
NZIWS 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"A delectable bouquet of stonefruit and vanilla and a vibrant, lively taste with focussed savoury nutty oak lifted by citrus and stonefruit that’s so seductively smooth and expressive as the soft creamy taste lingers."
