Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"This is our blended red wine. Originally, this wine was the first to be made with fruit from the Mere Road and Roy’s Hill vineyards. Before 1876, the Ngaruroro River took a bend around Roy’s Hill through what is now our Roy’s Hill Vineyard. In 1876 the Ngaruroro flooded and broke through an old channel called the Ruhanui, forming the present river. Our Mere Road vineyard is on the river terrace of the present Ngaruroro, so the name Ruhanui was seen as link between the two vineyards. From the mid 1990’s fruit for the Ruhanui has been sourced from the Roy’s Hill Vineyard. The vines were planted in 1992.
The wine has a combination of red and black fruit notes (plum, redcurrant and blackcurrant). This year our Ruhanui has lush red and black fruit flavours including plum, blackberry and blackcurrant. The tannins are soft and smooth and the wine has a long toasty finish with hints of sweet spice."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2020 Vintage)
"Offering great value, the elegant 2020 vintage is a 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, estate-grown in the Roys Hill Vineyard and matured for 18 months in seasoned French oak barrels. Deeply coloured, it is mouthfilling, fresh and vibrantly fruity, with concentrated, ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, oak complexity, supple tannins and a lingering finish. Still youthful, it's well worth cellaring to 2024+. Certified organic."

Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"Ripe, dark fruited bouquet with bold aromas of blackberry Cabernet and spicy dark plum Merlot. Layers of sweet French oak with vanilla and cloves then sweet toasty barrel scents. There’s a quiet yet distinctive aroma of violets and dark roses, some iron and pencil lead. On the palate – very youthful and tense, a core of fruit with dark berries and plum flavours then spicy toasty oak flavours. Firm tannins, plenty of acidity and a lengthy finish. A wine for the cellar still with best drinking from 2023 through 2030+."
