This is the last of the wonderful 2021 vintage of this wine at nothing short of a great price. Seemingly surrounded by rising prices this great deal looks better and better everyday. It's vibrant and intense, full of lush tropical fruits with underlying herbs and a streak of salinity.
Long time Marlborough farmers, the Jones family have three vineyards from which they source fruit for their Starborough label as well as growing fruit for other notable labels. With Two Rivers winemaker Dave Clouston making the wines they seem to be on a winning formula having picked up multiple Gold Medals for previous vintages. Starborough could well be the Star Sauvignon of this summer.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"A refreshing Sauvignon Blanc with richness of passionfruit, herb and mineral flavours. The nose is soft and elegantly proportioned with aromas of passionfruit, white floral aromas and nuances of fresh herbs and mineral notes. Lively on the palate and wonderfully structured by juicy acidity."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"This is splendidly fruited and inviting on the nose with nectarine, passionfruit, fresh fig and citrus peel aromas. It's gorgeously flavoursome on the palate offering excellent fruit power and persistency, finishing superbly long and delicious. At its best: now to 2024. "
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"This label typically offers good value. Estate-grown in the Awatere (65 per cent) and Wairau (35 per cent) valleys, the impressive 2021 vintage (4.5*) is bright, light lemon/green, with very good intensity of fresh, vibrant, tropical fruit flavours, a herbaceous undercurrent, a slightly salty streak, and racy acidity."
