Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"To qualify for Old Block, vineyards must be planted on their own rootstock and be older than 40 years old, however in 2013 there was not a vineyard younger than 80 years of age. Once the vineyard qualified to be considered it is graded in a blind tasting by the winemaking team to determine its quality.

With a touch of floral lift and dark fruits there is a secondary layer of wet slate , dark wine gums and nutmeg. It has great flow from the start with a dense fruit core and a long finish. It’s honed and polished with great complexity."

97/100 James Halliday's Wine Companion (2013 Vintage)
"A picture of good health, balance, flavour and length. It bristles with freshness, with power, with authority. The fruit – blueberry and blackberry, splashed with earth and ground coffee – is soft, but the tannin is ropey and firm, like arms around a bountiful harvest. A very long life in store."

94/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, July 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"In 2013 there’s 40% Eden Valley fruit in this wine. Usually a powerhouse wine caged in a medium-to-full-bodied frame. Cellars decently in its style too. The 2013 vintage has some mojo.

Cola, coal and dark berries, plum, prune, wood spice and cloves. It’s a heady start. The palate creeps with chewy, dusty, sinewy tannins, firm, tight, dark-fruited, deep with inward concentration of flavour, surprisingly silky in a way too. Very long in flavour, though the finish does show a little extra-than-wanted lemony tang. Pretty smart, this."

Winsor Dobbin, (2013 Vintage)
"To be brutally honest I can take or leave a lot of the new-wave of Barossa shirazes. Some of them, particularly from warm, dry years, taste like reds on steroids and special K. Big, almost brutal. Something to marvel at rather than something to drink. This Barossa icon, however, is a very different kettle of potatoes. The power is there; the intensity from the old vines; the potential to live for 20 years or more in the cellar. The addition of 40% of Eden Valley fruit to the Barossa component adds clarity, class and drinkability. There is that dark, brooding colour, along with fruit intensity, but also classy tannin structure, length and excellent balance. I'd enjoy a couple of bottles over the holidays, and put the rest of the case away for a rainy day, say around 2035."
