Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"Dense ripe blueberry and black cherry aromas with violets and savoury highlights of finely crushed dried herbs. Bold and powerful on the palate with layers of black fruits, ground nutmeg and cedar.
Classical, fine and slightly austere, youthful Cabernet tannins give definition, depth an distinction to this great Cabernet blend. A surge of flavours on the finish ensure the memory of the wine remains lingering on the palate. In its youth now through 2035."
Rated Outstanding & 97/100 Cameron Douglas MS, July 2021 (2014 Vintage)
"Made with the two Cabernets and Merlot aromas reveal a focused and concentrated complexity with a core of fresh and baked black fleshed fruits, violets and sweet new wood scents. On the palate there’s an equal and powerful concentration of fruit surrounded by an abundance finely polished tannins, vibrant sweet acidity and layers of smoky oak, gravelly earthy qualities and long complex finish. This is a young wine still with plenty of development time ahead. If drinking before 2024 then decant and service with food. Ideal drinking from 2026 through 2034+."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"The 2014 vintage is dark and refined, in a Bordeaux-like style, with concentrated, ripe blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours. Still youthful, it’s crying out for cellaring; best drinking 2020+."
5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, August 2021 (2014 Vintage)
"A youthful wine from a top Gimblett Gravels vintage. Moderately intense with blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, cedar and spicy oak flavours. A vibrant, high-energy wine, with a mellow texture that makes it quite accessible. It has serious cellaring potential."
95/100 & Editors' Choice, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast (2014 Vintage)
"This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (62.5%), Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Franc (12.5%) is aged in one-third new French oak for 10 months, resulting in a lovely marriage of vanilla and cedar with cassis. The wine is youthful and primary, but the oak and fruit are seamlessly integrated, blending baking spices and chocolate into the mix. Richly textured, with a long finish, this wine is delicious now, but should age well through 2030."
5 Stars & 19.0+/20 (96) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, July 2021 (2014 Vintage)
"Deep ruby-red with density, soften ruby on the rim. The nose is softly full and alluring, aromas of cedar, pencil shavings melded with menthol, cassis, red berry mix and spice liftings. Full-bodied, succulent aromas of red berries, cassis presented with purity, adorn by menthol and currant leaves; the palate grows with cedar, pencil shavings and an amalgam of barrel spices. The fruit is bright and pure, support by mouthwatering acidity; barrel complexity and age development go hand in hand in harmony. This elegant Cabernets/ Merlot blend from an excellent vintage displays pristine fruit, and smart oak use left a powerful finish. Match with Beef wellington and flintstone steak over the next 10+ years. A blend of 62.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12.5% Cabernet Franc sourced from Gimblett Gravels, handpicked, fermented in small open-top vats to 14% alc, basket pressed to French oak barrels, aged for 18 months, 33% new oak."
