Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2019
Spy Valley do plenty to build layers and layers of flavour and texture into their full bodied Pinot Gris and it works. Consistently this wine is a high achiever on the show and review circuit and in our opinion, always one of the best in its price bracket.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Aromas of sweet honeysuckle, quince, and almond pastry. The palate is creamy and full bodied with flavours of peach, nutmeg and pear tart. Concentration of fruit shows through with a supple underlying structure that leaves the wine fresh and vibrant on the finish. Medium/Dry style.
Hand harvested over 5 separate picks, the juice was gently whole bunch pressed and fermented in a mix of old oak vessels and stainless-steel tanks."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"It is delightfully fragrant on the nose showing golden peach, poached pear, spice and rich floral aromas, followed by a succulent palate that is supple and fleshy. The wine offers instant appeal with plenty of tasty flavours. At its best: now to 2022."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"Drinking well now, the 2018 vintage was hand-picked at 23.7 to 26.3 brix in the Southern Valleys and fermented in tanks and old oak vessels. Bright, light yellow/green, it is fragrant and weighty, with rich, ripe stone-fruit flavours, a hint of ginger, a distinct touch of complexity, gentle acidity, and an off-dry (9.4 grams/litre of residual sugar), very harmonious finish."
