Blue Gold Medal – Sydney International Wine Competition 2017

Winery notes (2011 Vintage)
"Pale lemon in the glass with a bouquet of tightly wound now, hints of jasmine, honeysuckle and citrus will blossom to fuller expression with bottle age. Palate is intensely concentrated, fruit flavours of white peach, apple skin and lemon meringue are wrapped around a steely acid frame."

5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, February 2017 (2011 Vintage)
"Delicious riesling in a moderately sweet style. Concentrated ripe tree fruit flavours contrast with tangy citrus characters to give the wine an exquisite tension and incredibly lengthy finish. Bottle age has helped to integrate flavours and develop complexity but the wine remains perfectly fresh and will no doubt age well."

5 Stars & No. 3 Cuisine Riesling Tasting, February 2018 (2011 Vintage)
"This older wine is holding beautifully. The aromatics are toasty and dignified, while in the mouth there is a core of remarkably fresh lime-infused fruit. It’s medium-dry, the sweetness deftly balanced by crisp, tingling acidity. The panel felt there were plenty more years left in this well-crafted riesling."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2011 Vintage)
"The 2011 vintage, released in mid 2017, was hand-picked, with no botrytis influence, and barrel-fermented. Pale lemon/green, it has an inviting, scented, minerally bouquet. Light and lovely, it is low in alcohol (8.6 per cent), with searching, citrusy, appley flavours, sweet (72 grams/litre residual sugar) and tangy, poised and persistent. Acquiring excellent bottle-aged complexity, with a strong sense of depth, delicacy and drive, it should be long-lived; drink now or cellar."

5 Stars & 19.0-/20 Raymond Chan, July 2016 (2011 Vintage)
"Brilliant, light straw-yellow colour with green hues, lighter on the rim. The bouquet is fine in proportion and tightly bound with fruit aromas of limes and lemonade harmoniously melded with subtle layers of toast and minerals and a suggestion of kerosene secondary development, unfolding honey and exotic floral elements. Sweet to taste and light bodied, the palate is rich and succulently sweet with focussed flavours of limes and lemonade entwined with complexing honey, toast and mineral notes. The mouthfeel is near creamy and unctuous and balanced by piquant, refreshingly racy acidity and the wine follows a fine phenolic threaded line with poise and tension. The flavours carry to a long, lingering finish of lime, honey and toast with the beginnings of drying textures. This is an elegantly rich sweet Germanic Spatlese styled Riesling with complexing secondary development and a near unctuous palate with balancing acid poise. Serve as an aperitif or as a wine to contemplate over the next 4-5+ years. Clean fruit with no botrytis from the ‘Johnson Estate D Block’, from the original plantings, hand-picked, WBP and fermented in oak to 8.6% alc., and 72 g/L RS, TA 9.8 g/L and pH 2.78, the wine aged 4 months on light lees."
