Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Award winning winemaker James Rowan has created a Waiheke Chardonnay that pays homage to the regal roamer of our Vineyard – Maximus Carter. A healthy nose with instant appeal – hints of guava & hazelnut radiate. Flavours of ripe stone fruit, citrus & spicy French oak create an elegant silky texture. A sleek body of underlying strength & back bone showcase this thoroughbred. Tall in stature & majestic… a worthy treat for the truly devoted.

Notes of spiced apple, savoury grilled lime & the scent of lightly roasted hazelnut. The palate frisks with taut salinity, flaxen texture & white pepper spiced creamed cashews. Of detailed line & sustained finish."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 vintage has excellent poise and depth. Bright, light lemon/green, it is still very youthful, with mouthfilling body, strong, fresh, peachy, slightly nutty flavours, finely balanced acidity, and obvious cellaring potential; best drinking 2020+."

Reviews for the 2016 vintage below…

5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2016 (2016 Vintage)
"Restrained and refined, this exquisitely composed chardonnay displays aromas of white stone fruit, lemon peel, nougat and vanilla with subtle flinty complexity on the nose. It is concentrated and focused on the palate, and delivers delicate fruit intensity and fine texture, brilliantly structured by firm acidity, finishing superbly long and linear. At its best: 2018 to 2022."

5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, May 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-gold hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is softly full with intricately layered and detailed aromas of white and yellow stonefruits interwoven with complexing nutty and yeasty lees notes forming a deep and concentrated core. Subtle oak and funky mineral nuances emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tightly bound with an intense and concentrated core of white and yellow stonefruits layered with nutty and yeasty lees detail, along with subtle oak elements. Bright, lacy acidity lends freshness and energy, and the wine flows along a fine-textured line with excellent vitality, leading to a sustained, nutty, minerally finish. This is a concentrated and intense Chardonnay with lively stonefruit flavours complexed by yeast lees detail on a fresh, fine-featured palate. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Jomara’ vineyard, two-thirds clone 15 and one-third clone 95, fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 6 months in 23% new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and partial MLF, followed by a further month on full lees in tank."
