Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Bright pale straw colour with lemon tinges. Lovely fresh aromas of white fleshed peach, roasted cashews and hints river stones and toasted brioche. The palate is immediately open with ripe stonefruit and confit lemon flavours surrounded by a lovely creamy texture, a hint of fine oak, and finishing long with a savoury, flinty twist.

100% hand-harvested fruit was whole-bunch pressed and barrel fermented in a blend of new and aged French oak barriques and puncheons. 30% new oak. 100% indigenous malolactic fermentation with a small amount of lees stirring during 11 months maturation in barrel.

Hawke’s Bay had its 4th consecutive warmer-than-average vintage in 2021. Flowering was five to 10 days early and normal temperatures were experienced until the end of January. It was a drier-than-average season, but the moderate summer meant no excessive vine stress was evident. Harvest weather was reasonably stable and favourable – a very good to exceptional Hawke’s Bay vintage, especially for Chardonnay and wellcrafted Syrah."

5 Stars Michael Cooper, June 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"A classic regional style, the 2021 vintage was hand-picked from sites at Bridge Pa, Omahu and Mangatahi, and fermented and matured in French oak barriques. Bright, light lemon/green, it is fleshy, sweet-fruited and savoury, with very generous, ripe stonefruit flavours, moderate acidity, finely integrated oak, and excellent depth, complexity and harmony. Still youthful, it should be at its best 2025+."

5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Stylish and sophisticated, the wine shows white flesh stone fruit, nougat, flint, cashew and oatmeal nuances on the nose. The palate delivers outstanding weight and creamy flow, wonderfully complemented by savoury nuances and beautifully pitched acidity. Seamless, harmonious and magnificently long with a great line and length. At its best: 2024 to 2033."

94/100 David Walker Bell, WineFolio.co.nz, August 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"A pale golden/lemon yellow in the glass. Fresh, inviting and complex aromas of white nectarine, grapefruit, lemon curd, hazelnut, popcorn, muesli and crushed shell. Framed with fine, toasty oak, the plush fruit sits front and centre, with citrus and stonefruit to the fore. Some mineral and savoury elements also jostle in, adding layers of herbs, flint, green olive and oyster shell. Seamless – when so many of our top wines are now single vineyard expressions – this is a masterclass in regional blending."

5 Stars & 19.0/20 (95) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, May 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Bright, even, pale straw-yellow. The nose is voluminous with a lifted bouquet packed with citrus, stonefruit, popcorn, roasted almond and flint. Medium-bodied aromas of lemon sherbet and peach flow with crunchy acidity, unveiling subtle layers of popcorn, roasted almond, flint and delicate spice. The mouthfeel is silky with powdery-textured phenolics, and the crisp acidity cleanses and glides with delicate spice and buttery nuances to a long, fresh closing. This Chardonnay has an appealing bouquet, delicate layers and crisp acidity. Match with grilled prawns with pineapple salsa over the next 7+ years. Fruit from Bridge Pa, Omahu and Magatahi vineyards, handpicked, whole bunch pressed, barrique fermented to 14% alc, aged on lees."

Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, June 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"There’s no mistaking the ripeness of fruit and pungency of stones and new barrel are locked into the bouquet. Nectarines and fresh peaches, grapefruit skin and raw sugar scent of oak. Youthful, vibrant and complex. Equally youthful and bright on the palate with a satin-cream touch then contrasting acidity and core fruit flavours that mirror the bouquet. Tannins from wood then fruit along with a decent acid line set the structure then plushness form ripe fruits and weight from the alcohol and complexity fill-out the palate. A delicious example with power and presence, a great drink on its own or with food. Best drinking from late 2023 through 2029."
