Winery Notes (2016 Vintage)
"First planted by founder, Nick Holmes, over 30 years ago, Shottesbrooke takes its name from an estate in Berkshire, England, where Nick’s grandfather was vicar of the parish from 1905 to 1926. Today, Shottesbrooke is proudly an estate grown and managed boutique winery. With premium fruit sourced from carefully selected sites around McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, the Estate Series proudly displays the passion we have for making wines of character and depth, whilst remaining true to the hallmark Shottesbrooke style of elegance and finesse.

Widely hailed as an outstanding success, the 2016 growing season in Langhorne Creek saw relatively dry conditions right through winter and into spring. As per most years, Lake Alexandrina's cooling breezes helped achieve even ripening conditions with low disease pressure, and this, coupled with even berry set early in the process, led to slightly above average yields. Most red varieties from this region showed a wonderful depth of colour, good balance and complex flavour profiles, with Cabernet Sauvignon certainly being the stand out.

Fragrant aromas of blackcurrant and subtle mint are supported by understated oak. Medium bodied with fine tannin structure, the palate displays concentrated dark cherry fruit flavours, lifted by restrained hints of eucalypt. An elegant, balanced wine with silky texture and long finish."

95/100 & Special Value Wine, James Halliday's Wine Companion 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"While not particularly deep, the hue is youthful, and the fragrant eucalypt nuances that accompany the fresh cassis of the palate are regional (and shared with Coonawarra). The finely spun tannins are a feature of a medium-bodied cabernet made to be drunk whenever the idea pleases you."

93/100, May 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Dark dusty garnet colour. Aromas of blackberry jam, black plum, juniper berry, and wet slate with a tart, dry full body and an interesting, very long ripe blackberry, black plum, bergamot, and dates finish with woody tannins and heavy oak. Robust and aggressively structured cab for similarly inclined fare."
