Shaky Bridge Pioneer Series Pinot Noir is one of those Pinots that drinks so easily and satisfyingly and is priced perfectly to meet the market and please the people. We sell a lot of this wine as it is probably one of the best values we've seen out of Central in quite a while (excepting the odd winery clearance deal of course) and its fantastic dark and juicy fruit richness and soft silken tannins are sure to please. A real gem!

Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Growing grapes in Central Otago for many years is the difference that defines Shaky Bridge Wines. In 1973, Bill and Gill Grant planted some vines on their 25 acre block on Dunstan Rd just outside the township of Alexandra to 'see what might happen'. Some Muller Thurgau and Chasselas were planted way back then, but Bill and Gill had an inspired moment a few years later when they heard they could get hold of some Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer vines.

A shipment of whole plant Pinot Noir vines arrived from Akaroa, near Christchurch, in the late 1970s and Bill and Gill went to work setting up one of the first Pinot Noir vineyards in Central Otago. There weren't too many believers in Central Otago wines back then, but the Grant's travels around the world had them convinced they could make something happen. We're most happy they ignored the naysayers and blazed a pioneering trail for Central Otago wine.

Sourcing fruit from 6 distinct blocks that vary in age from 10 – 30+ years, Shaky Bridge Wines owns one of the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in Central Otago. The various locations, soil types and clones used within each block provide our winemaker, Dave Grant, with a virtual painters palate of flavours to create multi dimensional wines of exceptional quality, depth and satisfaction."

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"It is impressively ripe and fragrant on the nose displaying dark plum, black cherry, vanilla, toasted hazelnut and warm spice aromas. The palate is concentrated and plush with excellent fruit intensity and depth, wonderfully enhanced by velvety mouthfeel and silky tannins. At its best: now to 2021."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"The fragrant, generous 2017 vintage was grown at several sites in the Alexandra Basin and barrel-aged. The colour is deep and purple-flushed; the palate very fresh and youthful, with strong, plummy, cherryish flavours and a seductively smooth finish. A very good example of the 'fruit-driven' style, it's priced sharply. Best drinking 2019+."
