Sevenhills was established in 1851, the first ever winery in the Clare Valley. According to the ‘Old Vine Charter’, Sevenhill’s Clare Valley Shiraz vines used in this wine would qualify as Ancient – more than 70 years old and some are well over 100 years. This is a heart warming, big, bold Shiraz – it's 15% alcohol, but such is the depth and concentration, this doesn't dominate. It just a big mouth filling, satisfying wine, yet balanced.
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Many of Sevenhill’s Shiraz vines are more than 70 years old and some are centenarians. Our Brother Lenz dry-grown block was planted in 1973- 1974 and the Brother Dan block was established in 1973. These older vines, combined with more recently planted blocks, provide fruit of great depth and diversity.
At Sevenhill, we have several open-top fermenting vats. Made from large slate slabs quarried from the nearby town of Mintaro, the size of these old-world vats is perfect for Shiraz. A large surface area of wine in contact with the fermenting skins gives the best extraction of colour and flavour. Each fermentation is plunged by hand, with careful consideration of the fermentation’s rate, temperature and flavour extraction. The wine was basket-pressed and matured in new French barrels (25%) and older French and American o
The 2017 Inigo Shiraz is marked by appealing, rich fruit cake and liquorice flavours followed by spicy oak. This elegant wine is full bodied with soft mouth-filling tannins and dark fruit flavours which linger on the palate."

"Impenetrable pitch black core with a deep dark red black hue. Elevated liquorice, black cherry and blackberry aromas meld into subtlety toasted vanillin oak with traces of black olive and black pepper also evident. Rich, sumptuous and full in body the palate is awash with opulently textured blackberry and liquorice flavours. Some black cherry, vanillin oak and spicy pepper elements then chime in. Firm, slightly chewy tannins provide backbone. Excellent concentration and power with a long spicy black fruited aftertaste."

"Sevenhill Inigo Estate Grown Clare Valley Shiraz 2015 is about as Clare as Clare ever gets: deep and furry and strong. I’m sure Vivaldi wrote a Gloria just for the release of wines like this. It seems to leave big angel feathers fluttering down from the rafters. I say big because this is one big brawny fully growen-up angel: there’s nothing cherubic about it. It doesn’t seem that strong to drink, mind you, like it’s not porty, but instead offers that sort of hammered lozenge of concentrated Shiraz as a neat sweetie that sits about the laughing gear for a while, then it’s gone, leaving more of that feathery tannin. At this stage the drinker will notice them feathers are black."
