Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"A fruit driven nose with notes of chocolate and spice. Full bodied and concentrated with layers of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and dark chocolate with spicy cedar notes. The palate is dark and dense with a velvety texture and complex spice flavours leading to a long toasty finish.
This outstanding fruit was sourced predominantly from a single vineyard within the Gimblett Gravels winegrowing district of Hawkes Bay. The vigour moderating, free draining gravel provides a superb base for this low cropping Merlot. This vineyard site has ideal ripening conditions for achieving the full aromatic profile and tannin structure that Merlot can give. The fruit was carefully monitored during ripening and harvested in the cool evening at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness."
5 Stars & Top 5 Cuisine NZ Bordeaux Varieties Tasting, June 2023 (2020 Vintage)
"A plummy, juicy and luscious style of merlot with obvious but appropriate and well-handled oak. The fruit on the palate is alive and shows lovely fine-grained tannins and fantastic acid structure. A juicy example with a long finish that will only improve with time."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2020 Vintage)
"Showing obvious potential, the 2020 vintage is a deeply coloured red with a fragrant, spicy bouquet. Full-bodied, it has concentrated blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, fresh acidity, and excellent ripeness and complexity. Savoury and supple, it’s still youthful and well worth cellaring to 2025+."
