Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"The grapes were sourced from the two Prophet’s Rock estate vineyards in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. This wine is principally from Rocky Point Vineyard is home to some of the steepest blocks in Central Otago, elegant vines grow on top of an underlay of schist rock providing high mineraltity and spice to the grapes whilst above the surface we see an abundance of wild thyme.
Brilliant ruby in colour the Rocky Point 2017 shows bright red berry, cherry, floral and spice aromas on the nose leading on to a smooth velvety palate. Here the rich fruit flavours are complemented by spice, mineral and dried herb notes leading on to a long rich finish. A versatile food wine that will complement a wide range of cuisine, this wine is a great match with lamb, game and salmon and will continue to provide great enjoyment over the next 4-8 years."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"One of the most consistently excellent and appealing pinots, the latest offering is filled with delectable fruit flavours of dark cherry and blueberry, together with toasted almond, game and violet nuances. The palate displays lovely weight and concentration, wonderfully complemented by silky texture and flowing mouthfeel, finishing long and succulent. At its best: now to 2022."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"Estate-grown at Bendigo, this fragrant, full-bodied red is drinking well now, but age-worthy too. Bright ruby, it has strong cherry, plum, spice and dried herb flavours, with nutty, savoury notes adding complexity and lovely harmony."
4 Stars & 17.5/20 Raymond Chan, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Dark, even, ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, paler on the edge. The nose is elegantly presented with tightly bound and firm aromas of ripe blackberry and cherry fruit entwined with subtle notes of dark herbs and liquorice, and a soft layer of mineral reduction. This is fresh and poised with intensity. Medium-bodied, the palate has a sweet core of ripe black cherry fruit entwined with dark herbs and hints of liquorice and red florals, along with nuances of minerally reduction. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin extraction which allows the fruit sweetness to feature, but provides good structure and grip. The wine carries with good linearity, leading to an elegant, lingering finish. This is a sweetly-fruited Pinot Noir with a fine, concentrated core of black cherry fruit with liquorice and minerally reduction on a fine-textured palate with good structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 90% of the fruit predominantly from Prophet’s Rock ‘Rock Point’ vineyard, hand-picked, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 15% new French oak barrels. 1,951 cases made."
