Platinum Trophy & 97/100 Decanter World Wine Awards 2019
Rapaura Springs have created a range of single vineyard wines and this Sauvignon Blanc comes from the Blind River area, the "driest, coolest and most windswept sub-region in Marlborough". On top the huge Decanter award this also gained a 95/100 score from Bob Campbell MW.
Rapaura Springs makes more small batches than any large wine company in Marlborough, this allows them to keep each vineyard and sometimes multiple batches from one vineyard separate until blending. This is an incredibly complex way of making wine, but they believe the results validate what they do. Rapaura Springs have become well known as a producer of highly awarded wines of value and are now making a name for themselves with their new Single Vineyard and Sub-regional wines.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"The 2018 Rohe Blind River Awatere Sauvignon Blanc shows attractive aromas of lemon-grass, ripe pink grapefruit and yellow stone fruits with underlying jalapeano and yellow bell peppers. The palate is big, super concentrated and luscious with layers of sweet melon, ripe grapefruit and papaya complemented by an attractive moorish and juicy acidity."

"Pungent, rich and concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with bright grapefruit/citrus, guava/tropical, grassy and vanilla aromas and flavours. Very appealing wine with a supple palate and a perfect amount of fruity acidity helping to drive a lengthy finish."

"Rapaura Springs’ Rohe Blind River Sauvignon Blanc 2018 is a new single vineyard label from Blind River district of the Awatere Valley (Rohe is a Māori word meaning territory or boundary). It’s a powerful example of the Awatere style with strong citrus and herb flavours."
4 ½ Stars Neil Hudgson, toptastes.co.nz, May 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Complex aromas with sulfide complexity, yellow peach richness, apricot spice, soft gooseberry. Opulent palate weight for a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, packed with tropical fruits (guava, passionfruit, pineapple) with some lime freshness. Refined acidity in the long finish but at 14% alc it is quite warm in the mouth.

This Sauvignon Blanc isn’t your run-of-the-mill Marlborough Sauv, it is rich and complex; I don’t know how this wine was made but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some barrel fermentation in the blend. Sulfide characters can be unpleasant if your palate is sensitive to them like I am, however this wine treads that fine line between complex and offensive sulfides with ease and falls on the delicious side of the line with the sulfides adding richness and complexity to the palate texture and the flavours."
