Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris – New World Wine Awards 2021
Gold Medal & 96/100 – New World Wine Awards 2021
We are continually impressed by the quality and value of the Rapaura Springs Reserve wines and sell a lot of the Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. This Pinot Gris is right up there with the sauvignon in quality and style. A mix of fermentation vessels and different yeasts has built texture into the wine and added a whole lot of character to the core of concentrated fruit. Mouth filling, rich, and excellent drinking.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Our Reserve Pinot Gris has inviting nashi pear, apricot and rockmelon aromas, with a hint of spice. Full of fruit character, but not too sweet, this off-dry wine is delightfully drinkable. The flavours linger long after your glass is empty."
NWWA 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Isn't Pinot Gris such a charming and easy-going wine? Splendidly styled by the top-notch winemaker, Michael Bann, who seems to have a magic touch with aromatic grapes, this is fragrant with Nashi pear, mango, rich floral with a light touch of spice, followed by a beautifully layered palate that's flowing and lingering. Champion Pinot Gris, not surprising at all."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Offering fabulous fruit purity and aromatic intensity, the enticing bouquet shows mango, poached pear, floral and subtle spice aromas, leading to a concentrated palate delivering succulent fruit flavours together with fleshy texture and juicy acidity, making it delectable and hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2024."
93/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, August 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"A well-made, appealing and flavoursome pinot gris with classic pear, apple and honeysuckle flavours. The wine is delicately luscious without being at all sweet. It has good weight and an ethereal texture."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, December 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Ripe fruited bouquet, vibrant, focused and varietal with aromas and flavours of fresh apples and pears, some quince and honeysuckle, a pinch of dried herb and white spice. Silky textures touch the palate first with a core of fruit and contrasting acidity. A complete wine, tasty, fresh and lengthy. Great drinking from 2022 through 2026."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"The 2021 vintage offers good value. Bright, light lemon/green, it is full-bodied, with strong, lively peach, pear, lychee and spice flavours, a hint of ginger, and an off-dry finish. Delicious young."
