Gold Medal – Marlborough Wine Show 2019
We are continually impressed by the quality and value of the Rapaura Springs Reserve wines and sell a lot of the Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. This Pinot Gris is right up there with the sauvignon in quality and style. A mix of fermentation vessels and different yeasts has built texture into the wine and added a whole lot of character to the core of concentrated fruit. Mouth filling, rich, and excellent drinking.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Our Reserve Marlborough Pinot Gris displays lifted aromatics of rose petal, tropical fruits and a hint of ginger. The palate is generous with stone fruit, melon and a subtle spice undertone. An off-dry wine with lovely flavour concentration, impressive weight and a lingering finish.
The fruit was gently pressed and the juice was floated and clean racked for fermentation. A selection of commercial and wild yeast strains were used at cool and warm temperatures giving the wine vibrant fresh fruit and a weighty textural element. 4% was fermented in older oak barrels adding to texture."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2019 (2019 Vintage)
"Fabulously fruited and gorgeously lifted, the bouquet shows fresh pear, feijoa, fig and floral characters, leading to a succulent palate that is wonderfully weighted and fleshy. The wine offers lovely vibrancy and fine texture backed by refreshing acidity, finishing long and delicious. At its best: now to 2022."
4 Stars Cuisine Pinot Gris Tasting, February 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Bright and youthful with ripe stonefruit, green apple and lychee aromas. Textural and soft yet with a vibrant focused palate of pears and spice leading through to a pure, crisp refreshing finish."
