Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"The ‘crown jewel’ in our sparkling collection; this exquisite wine exudes style and finesse. Refreshing citrus notes with an irresistible aroma of a pâtisserie. Tantalizing lime and chamomile with precise acidity that dances on the palate. Fine persistent bubbles will capture and engage your senses. An exceptional example of world class Méthode Traditionnelle, handcrafted in Central Otago, New Zealand.
This wine is from our BioGro certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic estate vineyard located in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The vineyard was planted in 1998 after careful site selection. The soils on the beautiful north facing slope are Waenga fine sandy loam and Letts steepland soil with an elevation of 217 – 264 metres
The grapes for the Vintage 2015 Blanc de Blancs were hand-picked in ideal condition on the 10th March 2015. Bottled on the 9th November 2015, this exceptional wine was aged for 60 months on lees then riddled and disgorged by hand during Spring 2020 on-site at Quartz Reef."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Top vintages are outstanding, showing great vigour and complexity in a Champagne-like style, intense and highly refined. The vivacious 2015 vintage is promoted as the 'crown jewel' of Quartz Reef's Central Otago sparklings. Made from Chardonnay, it was estate-grown at Bendigo, matured on its yeast lees for five years, and disgorged in 2020. Pale lemon/green, it is beautifully poised, with intense, vibrant, delicate, lemony, appley flavours, subtle yeasty notes adding complexity, and a very harmonious, dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar), lasting finish. Certified organic."
Reviews for the 2013 vintage below…
5 Stars & 97/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, September 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"Delicious Methode made from 100% chardonnay and with plenty of biscuit and brioche yeast lees flavour indicating plenty of time en tirage. This really is a terrific wine – quite robust and flavoursome for a Blanc de Blancs, with a lengthy finish and a moderately silken texture. A sophisticated wine with its own distinctive character."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"Expressing precision and seductive complexity; this splendid blanc de blancs shows aromas of white floral, grapefruit, apple and jasmine with engaging yeasty/brioche nuances. It is concentrated and elegantly weighted, exhibiting layers of fine texture and delicate fruit flavours, wonderfully enhanced by flowing mouthfeel and perfectly pitched acidity. Harmonious, sensual and persistent. At its best: now to 2022."
95/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"Incredibly fine, intense and vivacious sparkling wine. Shows pedigree from the get go, bright scents of pear, apple, sweet spice, fresh bread, but it's the palate that holds the power, a brisk yet deeply flavoured rush of fruit, spice, bready, savoury notes and ultra fine, frisky bead. Superb drinking. Class."
5 Stars & 19.5-/20 (97) Raymond Chan, July 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"Bright, even, light golden-yellow colour, a little paler edged with slight green tints, the bubbles refined and moderately persistent.. The nose is elegant in concentration with deeply packed with an amalgam of white florals, nutty complexities, and deep, detailed bready-yeasty autolysis along with subtle hints of aldehyde and toast. This has depth, intensity and layers of aromatics. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a soft and densely concentrated heart of white stonefruits with citrus fruit, floral suggestions and fresh herbs, along with an intense layer of bready and yeasty autolytic detail. The flavours are rich, yet refined, and flow with excellent energy enlivened by soft acidity and subtle effervescence, leading to a long and sustained line. This is a beautifully complex and refined Blac de Blancs method with fine stonefruit and intense autolysis on a softly fresh palate. Serve as an aperitif and with a range of white meat dishes over the next 4+ years. A blend of 91% Chardonnay and 9% Pinot Noir, hand-picked from the 2013 vintage, fermented to 12.5% alc. and a dosage of 4 g/L RS, the wine aged 56 months on lees, being disgorged 19 April 2018. Certified BioGro organic and Demeter biodynamic. 4,000 bottles made. Lot LV2013."
93/100 James Suckling, October 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"A very complex nose with grilled cashews, fresh bread dough, chalk, lemons and dried peaches. The palate has a crisp, assertive stye with plenty of acidity and pithy lemons. Long, crisp and layered with freshly baked brioche to close. A blend of 91 per cent chardonnay and nine per cent pinot noir."
17/20 Tim Jackson MW, JancisRobinson.com, July 2019 (2013 Vintage)
"Bendigo subregion. Biodynamic. 91% Chardonnay, 9% Pinot Noir interplanted and vinified white – they apply the 85% rule to declare this as a Blanc de Blancs. 56 months on lees. TA 8.2 g/l, pH 3.05, Dosage 4 g/l. Pale-mid gold. Marked, sweet apple fruit, with expressive, dusty, spicy lees and some fresh bread dough. Linear, focused and precise palate, with a fine, crisp mousse, crisp acidity and crisp yellow apple. Plenty of refreshment, with toasty, bready lees length."
