Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Following on from its world-beating older sibling from 2015 (won the trophy at London’s International Wine Competition for Best Red Wine of Show), and the super snappy sell out of our 2016 and 2017 vintages, here’s the latest Syrah on the Quarter Acre block, the 2018.
Handpicked fruit from our hillside vineyards, the 2018 season was set up with a calm, hot summer followed by a warm but changeable autumn. The 2018 vintage is a blend of Chabe, Grippat, Hermitage and MS clone which were blended at the winery. Aged in French oak barriques through winter before malo in spring, rested and then blended on 6 November 2019 before bottling without fining.
Aromas of violets and boysenberry and bramble, the palate is complex and textural with hints of thyme, the darkest of plum and earth. Underlying power and precision – it’s one smooth cat that will serve you well!"
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Offering fabulous fruit purity and perfume, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, sweet raspberry, floral and subtle spice aromas, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that's silky and persistent. It's wonderfully harmonious and flowing to a lengthy refined finish. At its best: now to 2025."
4 ½ Stars Yvonne Lorkin, February 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"The 2018 is incredibly juicy and heaving with classic peppercorn, leather and dusty upholstery aromatics. The acidity and alcohol are in perfect balance while blueberry, violet and plum power through on the flavour spectrum. It’s a serious impression syrah and one built for the long haul."
