Selected for the 2020 Fine Wines of New Zealand List
Prophet's Rock Pinot Gris is consistently one of New Zealand's best Pinot Gris as evident by being one of only 3 Pinot Gris in the Air New Zealand Fine Wines of New Zealand list.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"The Prophet’s Rock Pinot Gris comes from both our Home and Rocky Point vineyards. Planting in these warmer areas of Central Otago and practising careful viticulture allows us to produce a very aromatic style of Pinot Gris, while retaining the trademark freshness of the region. This wine has achieved an avid following and wide acclaim, despite very limited production."
95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Elegant, complex and varietal. Aromas of orange peel and baked pear, some lees and gentle baking spice layers, blossoms, apples and quince. On the palate – a dry wine with a fresh pure fruit palate laced with flavours that reflect the nose along with a gentle silken texture and lengthy complex finish. An excellent example, well made and ready to enjoy from today and through 2024+."

5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Raymond Chan, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Brilliant straw-yellow colour with light golden tints, pale on the rim. The nose is fresh and full with vibrant, up-front and rich aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits and hints of pear and honeysuckle harmoniously melded with complexing smoke, nutty lees and mineral elements. This has richness, intensity, detail and depth. Medium-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has bright and lively flavours of yellow stonefruits with hints of pear, honeysuckle and exotic florals entwined with complex wet stone, nutty and minerally lees notes. The flavours are rich and near-succulent, and the palate possesses a degree of opulence. The fruit forms a fir, linear core, and the wine flows with positive drive, and integrated acidity leading to a lingering finish of stonefruit and honeysuckle. This is a rich, up-front, medium-dry Pinot Gris with bold flavours of yellow stonefruits and honeysuckle, with pear notes entwined with complex minerally lees on a positive, linear palate. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian fare over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit from the two estate vineyards, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.4% alc. and 10.9 g/L RS, the wine aged 10 months on lees. 1,134 cases made."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Estate-grown and hand-picked at two Bendigo sites, in the Cromwell Basin, the classy, attractively scented 2016 vintage is full of personality. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and made with some use of old oak, it is light lemon/green, mouthfilling, fresh and youthful. Fleshy, it is an off-dry style (11 grams/litre of residual sugar), with concentrated, ripe, peachy flavours, hints of apples and lychees, a slightly creamy texture, and a real sense of youthful drive. A subtle, complex wine with gentle acidity, it should be at its best mid-2018+."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Elegantly fragrant and complex, the bouquet shows ripe peach, poached pear and apple blossom aromas with a hint of brioche. The palate delivers lovely fruit richness and intensity, wonderfully enhanced by velvety mouthfeel and subtle savoury nuances. It is seamless and flowing to a splendidly long attractive finish. At its best: now to 2024."
Yvonne Lorkin, June 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Winemaker Paul Pujol has created an absolutely stunning pinot gris from fruit grown in their ‘schist-happens’ Rocky Point vineyard and the clay and chalk soils of their Home vineyard in Bendigo. Fermented using wild, indigenous yeasts and matured on its yeast lees, it has incredible freshness and purity, yet has a deep, smouldering complexity on the finish. Nashi, quince, Golden Delicious apples and hints of strudel spice make this glorious to gulp."
